Overview

Back

Ronseal Ultimate Protection Decking Paint offers a quick and easy way of adding the best protection and vibrant colour to new decking or for restoring tired and grey decking, giving it a new lease of life.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Decked areas to be painted must be clean, dry and free from all surface dirt, debris and other contaminates.

  • Traces of surface mould, algae and moss should be scraped off with a scraper, stiff broom or brush
  • Areas affected by mould, moss or algae should then be treated with Ronseal Decking Cleaner and Reviver
  • Once treated, rinse the decking boards off with a hose or better still, a jet washer
  • Remove as much loose, peeling of flaking material as possible by sweeping again
  • Allow to fully dry for 24 hours before applying Ronseal Ultimate Protection Decking Paint

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during application to ensure a consistent finish.

  1. Apply the decking paint liberally with a good quality decking brush or other decking applicator
  2. When painting a deck, start in the furthest corner, brushing along the length of the decking boards
  3. Work along 3-4 deck boards at a time, taking care to minimise overlapping of the paint
  4. A little extra paint will fill small cracks and imperfections, giving a new uniform appearance across your deck
  5. We recommend 2 coats of Ronseal Ultimate Protection Decking Paint, allowing no longer than 4-6 hours between coats to ensure correct adhesion
  6. Allow the decking paint to fully harden for 48 hours before placing or moving garden furniture on or across the painted deck (temperature and humidity may affect the overall drying time)

Regular Cleaning

Decked areas can be swept on a regular basis to remove loose dirt and debris, then cleaned with a suitable decking cleaner.

Maintenance

Check decking for signs of wear once annually, and if required, apply a fresh coat of Ronseal Ultimate Protection Decking Paint.

Back
Is Ronseal Decking Paint a non-slip paint?

Although it is not classed as non-slip because it has not had the specific testing required for this classification, it will not make the surface slippery. A regular sweep of the decking will ensure the decking stays as slip resistant as possible. It is usually debris that causes the slippery algae build-up.

Can the Ronseal Decking Paint be sprayed?

Ronseal do not recommend spraying this product. Instead consider Ronseal Fence Life Brush.

Is Ultimate Protection Decking Paint suitable for pressurised decking?

Yes, this product is advised to go over pressure treated or tanalised softwoods and hardwoods to provide a vibrant, solid colour to decking.

Went on well
Arrived quickly and provided good coverage on an ageing deck. Looks decent but time and a North Yorkshire winter will tell how it ages.

The decking paint goes on so easy and leaves a nice finnish
Ordered 3 5Lts tins of charcoal decking paint, I used it to paint my fence in this instance and it looks great, have contrasted the dark colour of the charcoal on the fence pannels with slate grey on the concrete pillers and support base. The overall effect is amazing with neighbours commenting on the finnish. The paint goes a long way, I covered 8 standard 6' fence pannels 5 4' pannels and two 6' gates and still had some left to start on the inner side of all the pannels. Would definately recommend this paint for both fence and decking, have used it to cover my decking as well.

Quite hard to put on as really thick but once got going was ok. Really pleased with the finished result. Needs another coat so bought the paint pad to use this time.

High build decking paint
Good product that applies easily. I used a wide brush. The product is a little too glossy for me ideally though.

Excellent product
This decking paint is easy to apply, gives a really good finish and looks great. The coverage given on the tin is pretty accurate so had more than enough in a 5l tin to do two coats on a grooved decking approximately 20SqM

Does what it says on the tin
Good coverage Previous coat lasted 3 years on my 20 year old hard wood decking, so have repeated this year, looks great.
