Ensure that wood to be painted is clean, dry and free from dust, dirt and any other surface contaminants.
- Lightly sand the wood using 120 grit sandpaper in the direction of the wood grain
- Take care to remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner or by wiping the wood with a clean, uncoloured cloth dampened with white spirit
- Any instances of wet rot can be treated with Ronseal Wet Rot Wood Hardener
- Any existing woodworm can be eradicated with Ronseal Woodworm Killer
- Fill any holes or cracks in the wood with Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler or Ronseal Multi Purpose Wood Filler
- Pre-treat wood with Ronseal Knot Block Wood Primer and Undercoat, or alternatively use Ronseal One Coat Wood Primer and Undercoat or Ronseal One Coat All Surface Primer and Undercoat
Previously painted wood
If previously painted wood is in good condition, no cracking, flaking or peeling, give it a light sand with 240 grit sandpaper. Then use Ronseal Knot Block Primer and Undercoat. This will help with paint adhesion and permanently block wood knots from showing thorough the finish.

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.
Stir the contents of the tin thoroughly prior to application to ensure a consistent finish.
- Apply Ronseal Stays White Ultra Tough Paint in the direction of the wood grain, using a good quality synthetic brush
- Leave it to dry for 4 hours, then apply a second coat

Just the best
Super product to use, goes on easily and is touch dry within 10 minutes. Finish is excellent.

Good product
Used for woodwork including serving hatch for semi-commercial kitchen. Not excessively glossy, almost a satin, but that wasn't an issue for us. Time will tell how tough / durable it will be.

Simply the best
Love this paint with a smooth texture and lovely matt finish. Easy to use and Ronseal lives up to its name. Its worth a try if you have never used it

The paint goes on well. It has a nice finish but not overly glossy. If it does stay white I will be extremely happy . Would definitely buy it again .
