Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that floors to be coated are clean, dry and free of dust and other surface contaminants, and that the room temperature is above 10°C.

Bare Wood Floors

Previously Painted Wood Floors

  • Remove any loose or flaking paint with a stiff brush, then sand with a 120 grit paper to provide a key
  • Vacuum the area to remove all traces of sanding dust
  • Wipe the area with White Spirit to remove any traces of grease, oil or dirt if required

Concrete and Stone Floors

  • Ensure that newly laid concrete has been left to dry for a month before application
  • Sweep the floor and remove all traces of dust with a vacuum cleaner
  • To prevent any reaction between the concrete and paint occuring, seal the floor with a Stabilizing Solution, or pour some of the paint into a container and dilute with 10% water

Previously Painted Concrete Floors

  • To help the paint adhere to the floor, sweep then vacuum the area thoroughly to remove all traces of surface dust and debris
  • Then wipe with white spirit and leave to dry before coating with Diamond Hard Paint

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Please Note: The colour of these paints looks significantly different in the tin when first opened and before stirring. For example, the black paint looks a strong medium blue and the Terracotta looks a creamy yellow. Stir the paint thoroughly to mix the pigments. The paint dries to relevant colour once applied. Continue to stir the paint periodically during application to ensure a consistent colour.

  1. Apply Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Paint with a synthetic brush, microfibre roller or paint pad
  2. For best results, start in the corner of the room furthest from the door
  3. When painting wooden floorboards, work on 2 floorboards at a time to avoid overlapping and finish in the same direction as the wood grain
  4. Apply 2-3 coats dependent on the coverage and colour, leaving 4-6 hours between each coat

Regular Cleaning

For general everyday cleaning, floors can be dry swept with a broom or floor brush and then vacuumed.

Deep Cleaning

For deeper cleaning, use a damp (not wet) lint-free cloth or mop and an appropriate floor cleaning solution. Avoid using household cleaners and detergents where possible, as these may degrade the finish or potentially ruin it over time.

Maintenance

To maintain the finish, simply apply a fresh coat of Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Paint as required, following the Preparation and Application instructions.

Repair

For localised areas that are showing signs of wear, these can be patch repaired by first cleaning, then applying a fresh layer of Diamond Hard paint to the affected area.

Is Ronseal Floor Paint suitable for floor tiles?

Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Paint is not suitable for use over laminate floors, pre-finished floors, or ceramic tiles. Why not call our Woodcare Experts on 01303 213838 to discuss your options.

What woods can the Diamond Floor Paint go on?

Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Paint is ideal for use over most hard or soft woods, as well as hardboard, chipboard, wood composite, concrete, brick and stone.

Do I need a primer for the Diamond Hard Floor Paint?

If the timber is bare wood, we recommend using something Ronseal Knot Block Wood Primer and Undercoat before use to ensure even coverage and adhesion of the Floor Paint.

Can you get the Ronseal Diamond Floor Paint in green?

This paint is available in Tile Red, Slate, Black, White, Pebblestone and Cream. If you require a colour not listed on our website, please get in touch with our Woodcare Experts to discuss your options on 01303 213838.

Can Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Paint be used on vinyl flooring?

We would not recommend applying this on vinyl as it would not adhere very well. Instead, consider Bedec Acrylic Floor Paint as a better solution.

Goods as ordered sent out very promptly and delivered in good time
The product is very easy to use as it can be applied in a well ventilated environment without fumes problems, and cleaning the brushes with water is better than white spirit etc.

Great paint covers really well
For a water based paint it's very good. It covers really well. Durable surface as well. Best water based & low odour product I have found.

It’s fantastic!
I’ve used the white version of this many times. The finish after 3 coats was fabulous, satiny and luxurious! Really pleased, it’s very hard wearing too! Goes on an inky blue so you can see exactly where you’ve been and dries jet black!

Good product
This is proper floor paint. I can vacuum it without and walk on it with no chipping.

New recipe not a patch on the original
I painted a bedroom floor with this a few years back and it still looks great. Unfortunately the two rooms I painted with the new formulation look shabbier after only a few months. It's a shame as it was a fab product.

Good product
Good product. Took 3 coats to cover darker wood floor but good end result. Still happy with finish after 2 years.

Brilliant transformation of a bare OSB floor
Bought this product in 2020. As a builder I have used a number of Ronseal products. I painted a 40 sqm floorr ( 25mm OSB t&g panels with water underfloor heating) with 3 coats of Ronseal floor paint. The result is a brilliant durable surface. Photos are available. The paint has not been affected at all by the hot water underfloor heating.

Wasn't cream, more like peach V disappointed
Didn't like the colour one bit. I wanted cream but this was more like peach and so I wouldn't buy it again.
