Paint Panther Paint and Varnish Remover

Admittedly, it is many years since I used paint stripper and although this did the job, it was not as good as I seem to remember paint stripper being. There was none of the quick blistering followed by the scraping off of a long strip, like a snake's skin. One tin was not enough for a windowsill, so I went to a local(ish) shop for more and it was the same brand, no choice. Maybe there is no longer an alternative to this.

I needed to scrape off old damaged varnish that had black water marks underneath from a wooden work surface … this worked perfectly. I scraped the surface first and then applied the stripper, scraping between each application and 3 applications in total. Works like a charm?

Used to remove dark finish off old Ercol furniture. The product was useful but a lot of scraping and sanding was still needed.

I bought it as other reviewers said 'better than Nitromors'. I haven't used Nitromors since around 2005 and it may, for all I know, have been reformulated to be a bit more 'eco' since then and perhaps less effective. However, this was nothing like as effective on the paint as the Nitromors I used then - also on 1960s gloss paint. It did do a reasonable job on the old varnish, but it did not seem to live up to expectations from my point of view.

I am using this to strip the varnish off 30 year old oak kitchen doors. It is taking a fair amount of product and time and the results are patchy. It is much harder work that I expected. (I am not new to furniture restoration.) I would have really struggled without the stripping knife. I can say that at best my results are 90% removal but all doors will require a full sanding prior to waxing. Bought on the strength of the 5 star reviews which I no longer believe.

Been using to remove old varnish from cedar cladding before a light sand and treatment with Osmo UV protection oil. Very effective when following the instructions, especially doing a small area at a time so that the remover does not dry out. I have been doing two coasts then using a scrapper to remove the blistered varnish. This is followed by a light sanding with 80/120 grit sandpaper before treatment.

Bought to remove some green garden paint from woodwork. Worked well in lifting the paint but did require two applications on stubborn areas.

A good product did the job I needed it to do. Fast delivery and everything packaged securely. Would definitely buy from them again.

Do not bother with any other varnish remover. I bought this product after doing quite a bit of research into a half decent varnish stripper now that the old/nasty (but effective) active ingredient has been banned in most markets from these products. I’m glad I didn’t bother with NitroMors as that one seems to be a waste of money. The product is a gluggable gel so decanting it into a smaller container for use in small batches is fine. Just read the instructions, only work with a small area at a time and let it do its work before scraping. This product got the vast majority of coloured varnish up from a pine floor board floor on the first go with a scraper. Some areas around knots etc needed some wire wool and a second go but that’s probably because I didn’t leave it down long enough. This product was a pleasure to use, much less hassle and mess than sanding. You may find a second scraper useful to scrape off the ‘used’ residue into whatever container you have. And be careful of your knees as you will be down there a while. Tape some folded towels around them if you don’t have kneepads. All products were delivered quickly and with care and prices were very reasonable.

Highly toxic as one would expect yet extremely efficient in purpose.

Not sure it's as effective as similar products that used to be available, but still does the job ok, just needs some perseverance to get it right. Don't apply too much at once, becomes much harder to strip the paint if you let it dry out.

I had no previous knowledge of this product it worked for me ,and I was satisfied with the result

Used it to strip our hardwood front door and surround. Two applications (two coats in quick succession each time) was sufficient to lift multiple layers of varnish. Just don't leave it too long after application before stripping off - I found it worked better while still wet (say within 15 minutes of application).

Does what it says on the can!!
