Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure all exterior surfaces are clean, dry and free from dust, grease, algae, mould and any other surface contamination before application. Do not apply to damp timber and ensure the moisture content is suitable for exterior finishing.

Bare or New Wood
  1. Lightly sand the surface to smooth the timber and open the grain
  2. Remove all sanding dust thoroughly using a brush, vacuum or lint free cloth
  3. If required, treat bare exterior timber with a suitable preservative and allow to dry fully
  4. Ensure the timber is completely dry before applying the varnish
Previously Varnished or Painted Surfaces
  1. Ensure existing coatings are sound, clean and firmly adhered
  2. Lightly sand the surface to create a key for improved adhesion
  3. Remove all sanding dust prior to application
  4. Where coatings are flaking, peeling or unstable, strip back to bare wood using a suitable paint stripper, then sand smooth and clean before varnishing

Application

Application

Back

  1. Stir thoroughly before and during use. Do not shake
  2. Apply using a good quality synthetic bristle brush or suitable roller. For spray application, follow manufacturer guidance
  3. Apply 2 to 3 thin, even coats for best performance
  4. On porous or new timber, dilute the first coat with up to 10 percent water if required
  5. Allow each coat to dry fully before applying the next
  6. Do not apply in damp, cold or excessively humid conditions

Regular Cleaning

Surfaces finished with Polyvine Exterior Extreme Varnish should be cleaned periodically using a soft brush or cloth with mild soapy water to remove dirt and surface contamination. Avoid abrasive pads, harsh cleaners or aggressive pressure washing, as these may damage the protective coating. Inspect exterior surfaces regularly and recoat when signs of wear become visible to maintain long term protection.
