Overview

Overview

Back

Osmo Opaque Gloss Wood Stain is suitable for all interior and exterior timbers and is ideal as a low maintenance window pane and framework finish. It is also well suited for finishing wooden fences, screens, pergolas, trellis, posts, garden pavilions, summerhouses and garden furniture.

Please Note: This product can be used for interior gloss work but just like most solvent based paints it can yellow over time, particularly on darker wood species.

Using this product on rough sawn or featherboard wood will significantly reduce it's coverage.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Surfaces to be treated must be clean and dry, removing all traces of dust and dirt prior to the application of Osmo Opaque Wood Stain (maximum moisture content 20%). Only apply on a frost-free surface. For best performance it is always recommended to remove all traces of previous finishes.

  • Existing oiled surfaces can be lightly rubbed back with meths then fully cleaned
  • Pre-existing varnishes and sealers must be completely removed via sanding or using a suitable paint stripper / varnish remover
  • For internal wood repairs, use Osmo Interior Wood Filler, Osmo Interior Gap Sealer or other suitable interior wood filler
  • For exterior wood repairs, use a suitable exterior wood filler
  • To protect against blue stain in moist surroundings, pre-treat wood with Osmo WR Base Coat (4001)

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Do not apply Opaque Gloss Wood Stain in wet conditions or if rain, frost or snow is likely before the product is dry.

  1. Stir opaque woodstain thoroughly before and periodically during application
  2. Apply thinly and evenly along the wood grain using an Osmo Soft Tip Brush or Osmo Premium Microfibre Roller and spread well
  3. Wipe off any excess oil with a clean, lint-free cloth
  4. Allow to dry for approx. 10 hours with good ventilation
  5. Apply a second coat as above
  6. Allow 10 hours to dry completely

Osmo white wood stain
this is the best finish i've found for windows/exterior woodwork, it goes a long way and doesn't peel or crack, plus it says you don't need to rub it down /sand for maintenance
