Overview

Overview

Back

Osmo Oil Stain is perfect for all wooden flooring, solid or plank wood, strip parquet, OSB or cork flooring. Highly recommended for wooden furniture and staircases, it can also be applied on slate and screed, as well as terracotta and other natural (non-glazed) ceramic tiles.

Osmo Oil Stain can be used as a tinting agent for Osmo Polyx Oil Clear and Osmo Polyx Oil Rapid, up to a maximum of 10% i.e. 250ml mixed with a 2.5Ltr tin of Polyx Oil.

Before opening the 5ml sample sachets, squeeze the packet several times to ensure that the oil and pigments inside are thoroughly mixed.

Please note: The name of Osmo Oil Stain 3564 (Tabac) has been changed by Osmo to 'Tobacco'. This change relates to the product name only, the product colour remains the same.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Wooden surfaces must be clean, dry and frost free (moisture content max. 20%) prior to application of Osmo Oils Stain.

  1. Old wood finishes including wood oils, stains, paints and lacquers must be fully removed before staining
  2. Wood surface needs to be sanded carefully to ensure a consistent stain is achieved (final sanding for flooring P100-150, furniture P180-240) (Please Note: Uneven sanding or poor sanding technique may result in an inconsistent finish)
  3. Remove abrasive dust with a vacuum cleaner before applying the wood stain
  4. Wooden surfaces can be de-greased with meths to remove surface contaminates
  5. Small cracks, larger gaps or holes in the wood can be filled with Osmo Interior Wood Filler or Osmo Interior Gap Sealer

How To Apply Osmo Oil Stain

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

This product does not require thinning. Stir periodically throughout the application process and ensure good ventilation during application and drying.

  1. Depending on the desired result, use either the Osmo Floor Brush (in conjunction with Osmo Telescopic Handle, a Osmo Premium Microfibre Roller or the Osmo Double Blade Scraper for application
  2. For wooden furniture, apply with a soft, lint-free cloth
  3. For a more intensive colour tone, a second coat may be applied
  4. Once dry, a compatible top coat must be applied to seal in the stain

Finishing methods for optimal results

Osmo Oil Stain should be finished using 'clear' Osmo Polyx Oil for full durability and longevity. The following colour tones however require special attention:

  • Osmo Oil Stain - White (3501): Over-coat with Osmo Polyx Oil Raw (3044), to avoid an off-white or yellowing of the finish.
  • Osmo Oil Stain - Natural (3519): Osmo recommend applying a thin coat using either a floor brush or microfibre roller. After drying, a clear coat of Osmo Polyx Oil should be applied. The wood surface looks natural with no darkening of the timber. The finish may appear chalky on red /dark wood species.
  • Dense exotic hardwoods or oily woods such as Wenge, Meranti, Merbau etc, Osmo recommend using Osmo Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin (1101) to seal in the stain.

Does the Oil Stain have more pigment than the Polyx Oil Tints?

Yes, it contains more pigment than the tinted Polyx Oil, therefore will offer a higher depth of colour.

Tiniest sample ever
Wish the sample was at least 10ml for me to test the required area properly especially as the p&p charges are quite high.

Beautiful finish
Identical to the sample pack ordered previously. First time using wood stain so I was anxious going into it but the product was easy to use and left a beautiful finish. Used on a Teak dining table restoration, I applied two coats of this stain, and had some left over from a 125ml tin.
