Overview

Overview

Back

Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain Effect is ideal for use on any exterior wood, including doors, windows and shutters, carports, timber cladding, balconies, smooth fences, pergolas, garden furniture and summer houses.

All colour shades can be mixed with each other to achieve alternative shade variations.

Before opening the 5ml sample sachets, squeeze the packet several times to ensure that the oil and pigments inside are thoroughly mixed.

Please Note: The transparent colour tone of this product will be influenced by the wood's natural colour, causing the result to deviate from the colour shown on the colour chart. Lightly pigmented transparent finishes have limited protection against UV influences and are therefore not recommended for surfaces prone to strong sunlight.

Using this product on rough sawn or featherboard wood will significantly reduce it's coverage.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Wooden surfaces to be treated with Osmo Woodstain must be frost-free, dry and free from surface dirt and debris prior to application.

  • Existing oiled surfaces can be lightly rubbed back with meths then fully cleaned
  • Pre-existing varnishes and sealers must be completely removed via sanding or using a suitable Product Stripper / Remover
  • Any green growth or mould can be removed with Barrettine Mould and Mildew Cleaner
  • Use an suitable, porous filler to repair small dents and holes
  • To protect against blue stain in moist surroundings, pre-treat wood with biocide-free wax impregnation, Osmo WR Base Coat
  • Pre-treat grey or sun damaged wood with Osmo Wood Reviver Gel

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Stir well before and periodically during use.

Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain Effect is ready to use and does not require thinning. Be aware that rough sawn timber is more absorbent, meaning coverage per litre will be greatly reduced.

  1. Apply thinly and evenly along the wood grain with an Osmo Soft Tip Brush or Osmo Premium Microfibre Roller
  2. Allow to dry for approx. 4-6 hours with good ventilation
  3. After drying, apply a second coat in the same manner

Please Note: Dried surface is satin-glossy at first and afterwards is satin.

Finishing

Finishing

Back

To increase the durability of the finish and improve UV resistance we recommend, after thorough drying, the application of Osmo UV Protection Oil 420 Extra as a top coat.

Maintenance

If surfaces show signs of wear or a loss of weather resistance over time, simply clean and add a maintenance coat of Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain Effect to the existing finish.

Good service
The paint allowed the new wood to blend into the silvery wood of the building.

Very satisfied with the finish
This was the first time that I had used this Osmo Oil Woodstain. It has a very nice, slightly silvery weathered effect. My criticism is that the stated coverage is very misleading. The online information states up to 26m2 per litre with reduced coverage for rough sawn timber. I purchased one 750ml tin and it states coverage of 9m2 on rough sawn. I used it on feather edge boarding and just managed to cover 4.75m2 with one coat. I still had 7.5m2 of planed timber to cover so had to buy another tin. I did manage to get two coats onto this area with a little bit to spare. Turned out to be an expensive wheelie bin store - £120 in timber and £114 to coat it!

Too small amount in the sample
Sachet is bit too small to really do a test patch of the colour, my bad i just saw sample and presumed it was a small pot... Once opened you cannot reseal, so second coat isn't possible for the test patch

This may be expensive but it's simply the best paint I've ever used.
