Overview

Overview

Back

Osmo Country Colour is a very versatile, paint-like, opaque oil finish for use throughout the garden and home. Perfect for a wide range of projects, including wooden sidings and cladding, trim, clapboards (shutters), smooth fences, shakes, shingles, pergolas, summer houses, log cabins, boat houses, garden furniture, sheds and more.

Important Note : Osmo Country Colour is no longer available to be mixed into bespoke colours from ranges such as: BS, RAL, NCS etc. We would recommend country Osmo Country Shades as a suitable alternative offering almost identical visual and performance characteristics.

Although labelled as an exterior product, Osmo Country Colour can also be used on interior wood to good effect. The high solvent-content however means that it is very smelly when being applied. It is recommended that interior items being finished should be removed outside for application and drying. If this is not possible, windows and doors should be opened to aid ventilation.

Please Note: Using this product on rough sawn or featherboard wood will significantly reduce it's coverage.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Wood to be treated with Osmo Country Colour must be clean, dry and frost-free.

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to test product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Be aware that rough sawn timber is more absorbent, meaning coverage per litre will be greatly reduced. Osmo Country Colour is ready to use straight from the tin, no thinning required. Stir well before and periodically when in use.

  1. Apply thinly and evenly along the wood grain with an Osmo Soft Tip Brush, Osmo Premium Microfibre Roller or other suitable applicator
  2. For exterior wood, apply first coat on all sides before installation for maximum protection
  3. Allow to dry in line with the product Information on the tin or data sheet
  4. Once dry, a second thin coat should be applied

Aftercare

Renovation

For general renovation, apply a fresh coat of Osmo Country Colour thinly and evenly in the direction of the wood grain as and when required.

I want to paint an unfinished kitchen table and chairs with Osmo Country Colour but see that its labelled as an exterior product. Can i use it?

In short, the answer is yes. Osmo Country Colour does not contain any biocides or other chemicals that would make it unsuitable for interior furniture, doors or other interior wood. The only word of caution is that it has a high solvent content and is therefore very smelly and especially so in confined spaces. Our recommendation would be that if possible, move the table and chairs outside to paint and dry. If this isn't possible, open doors and windows to allow lots of ventilation.

Can Country Colour be applied over a previous finish?

No, this is a penetrative oil that needs to sink into the wood and bind the wood fibres. Any previous finish needs to be completely removed prior to application.

Easy to apply and covers well
I have use osmo paint on several occasions and I really like to use the oil base paint. It spreads out easy and not much paint to be needed. The calculated amount matches well with the area to be painted. The colour matches well with the example and covers the wood well.

Difficult to apply
If you want a solid white finish this product is quite difficult to apply. However, it gave us a more rustic patchy look on our summerhouse which we rather liked.

Great coverage and last for years
We used on our garden shed and it has lasted for now 6 years so we have now painted our old teak bench. It’s like a different product It’s took 3 coats all over using thinly, but I’m hoping it will last as long as the shed much smarter than the regular paint.

Very disappointed
Especially frustrating as this was recommended by Wood Finishes Direct. The product is incredibly runny, drips easily, and dries patchy unless applied with absolute precision. The finish is glossier than expected with an odd blue tinge. I ended up wasting £170 and a lot of time, only to cover it all again with Bedec Barn Paint — which I’d highly recommend instead.

Good solid colour, penetrates into pre-treated wood well
Repainting an outbuilding with Osma country colour after nearly 10 years. Covers original well, seems to penetrate into the wood and leaves a nice satin/gloss finish. High VOC's a bit of a disadvantage and needing spirit cleaner for brushes.

Good solid colour, penetrates into pre-treated wood well
Repainting an outbuilding with Osma country colour after nearly 10 years. Covers original well, seems to penetrate into the wood and leaves a nice satin/gloss finish. Slightly thinner than I remembered. High VOC's a bit of a disadvantage and needing spirit cleaner for brushes.
