Overview

Overview

Back

Liberon Superior Danish Oil is ideal for most interior and exterior hardwoods and softwoods. It is a penetrating oil which brings out the natural grain of the timber and gives a finish somewhere between satin and gloss, meaning it is shinier than a standard satin sheen, but not quite as shiny as that of a standard gloss.

Please note: This product is not suitable for use on external oak. For this purpose, we recommend the use of a Tung oil such as Morrells Tung Oil. It is, however, fine for use on interior oak surfaces.

Danish Oils enhance the natural colour and character of the wood, giving an almost damp like appearance. To get an indication of how the wood will look once oiled, slightly wet the bare wood with a clean cloth or sponge dampened with water.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that wooden surfaces to be oiled are clean, dry and free from dust, dirt and any other surface contaminants.

Interior woodwork

Exterior woodwork

  • Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from decaying timber
  • Any decaying timber should be cut out, removed and replaced with new timber
  • Surface greying or mould should be treated with a suitable mould and mildew cleaner or wood restorer as this may cause blackening of the timber

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project, to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Interior Wood

  1. Apply the Danish Oil with a natural bristle brush or lint-free, cotton cloth
  2. Allow it to soak into the wood for 5-10 minutes before wiping off the excess with a clean, lint-free cloth
  3. Allow to dry for a minimum of 5 hours, then apply more coats as required - we recommend a minimum of 3 coats for interior wood, and a minimum of 4 for exterior wood
  4. For best results gently rub with Liberon Ultra Fine (0000) Steel Wool between coats
  5. In exposed areas or damp areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, more coats will be required. It is important to ensure sufficient coats of oil are applied initially to give maximum protection

Exterior Wood

  1. Apply as above for interior wood
  2. Exterior wood will require a minimum of 4 coats with exposed areas requiring additional coats
  3. It is not necessary to remove the excess on sawn timber, but do wipe off any runs

Regular Cleaning

Oiled surfaces can be cleaned with a damp, lint-free cloth. Any spills should be wiped up immediately and stubborn stains can be removed with a mild detergent.

Maintenance

Surfaces treated with Liberon Superior Danish Oil need to be re-oiled once a year or more, depending upon usage. Exterior timbers need to be maintained on a regular basis, at least twice a year. Clean off any surface grime, mould etc. (sanding if required) before re-oiling.

This has worked a treat on two large pieces of American black walnut. The depth of colour and grain look stunning. With easy instruction, this product did exactly what it claimed to do, which makes me very happy

Superb finish
This is my Danish oil of choice, for the simple reason of the quality of the finish itself.

Brings up the colour and grain
I love this oil on my kitchen worktops because with patience you are left with a rich sheen that shows up the beauty of the wood. I have tried others special worktop oils over the years to save time but I always come back to this when I want them to look smart ready for Christmas! It's good exercise as well as it takes several thin coats to obtain a quality finish.

Easier to apply than Teak or Tung Oil and gives a better finish depending on where used
I use it to maintain teak furniture which had previously been treated with Teak Oil. It gives a slight gloss finish which flattens down after a while. When I used it on bare solid teak it gave a matt finish after 4 applications.
