Overview

Overview

Back

Holzol Worktop Oil is designed to protect and seal wooden worktops. The unique blend of natural, oils, waxes and resins are food and child safe when dry making it perfect for a wide range of uses. This includes kitchen worktops, table tops, chopping boards, butcher blocks and other surfaces that require a high degree of protection.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Kitchen work tops and other wooden surfaces to be treated must be clean, dry and free from all surface coatings and contaminates before applying Holzol Worktop Oil.

  1. Old paint or varnish finishes must be fully removed by sanding or using a paint and varnish remover
  2. If required, use methylated spirit to remove old or dirty, oil or wax treatments
  3. If sanding is required, sand the worktop surface with a p120 grit abrasive
  4. Ensure that all traces of sanding dust have been removed before oiling

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to test product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

  1. Apply an even film of Worktop Oil to the surface with a natural bristle brush or lint-free cotton cloth
  2. Work the oil fully into the grain of the wood
  3. Wipe off any excess oil from the surface of the wood
  4. Allow to dry for 6-8 hours
  5. Lightly abrade / denib with a finishing pad or an abrasive
  6. Apply a second coat of Holzol Worktop Oil, as above
  7. Allow 12 hours to completely dry

Please Note: Using this product in systems outside these guidelines can lead to immediate and latent problems with the integrity of the finish.

For exotic or oily timbers, the first coat can be thinned with a high quality White Spirit to aid penetration into the tight wood grain.

Regular Cleaning

Surfaces treated with Holzol Worktop Oil can be cleaned using a slightly damp, lint-free cloth.

Please Note: Oiled worktops and other surfaces should not be cleaned with copious amounts of hot or cold water. Avoid using household detergents and cleaners as these may degrade or breakdown the oiled finish.

Maintenance

If the finish becomes tired looking or damaged, lightly abrade (sand) with a 240 / 320 silicon carbide abrasive and apply a further thin coat of oil, following the Preparation and Application instructions above.

Follow the directions on the can and you can't go wrong
Easy to apply and - providing the surfaces have been sanded to bare wood for the first coat - the subsequent coat provides an attractive satin finish. Initial sanding of the wood surface (80 grade, then 150 grade paper), followed by a white spirit wipe, before applying the first coat was a good start. A light sanding (320 grade) and white spirit wipe before the second coat produced an excellent finish.
