Preparation

Preparation

Back

To obtain optimum results, ensure surfaces to be coated are structurally sound, free from all poorly adhering or defective material and clean from dirt, grease, rust or paint.

  • Put down dust sheets to protect any surfaces that are to remain unpainted
  • Loose flaking rust or paint and debris will need to be removed prior to coating, using a wire brush, sanding or light blast cleaning
  • If the metal surface is already painted then clean with a suitable detergent, thoroughly rinse and allow to dry
  • Repair holes, cracks or imperfections to the surface substrate with a suitable metal filler and allow to harden
  • Lightly abrade smooth metal surfaces to form a sound key. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry

Please Note:

  • In the case of new galvanised steel, let the surface weather until dull and then prepare the substrate with the instructions above

Application

Application

Back

Always perform a small test area to assess colour and compatibility of the finish.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

  • Ideally, apply between 10-30°c, avoiding extremes of temperature
  • Stir the paint before applying, ensuring to work the sides and base of the tin to help a consistent mix
  • Apply using a good quality synthetic brush or microfibre roller
  • For best results, 2 thin coats are recommended
  • Dilution is not required as the paint is supplied at the correct consistency
  • Leave 4 hours drying time between coats

Good value, excellent service
The paint was excellent and delivered as promised on time. I rate the paint and Wood Finishes Direct as extremely good, I highly rate them and would recommend them to others. They are honest and very helpful.
