Overview

Overview

Back

Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Natural is designed to offer a more natural, "untreated" look, drying to a satin-finish, or, if using the "Ultra Raw" option, a matt finish. Made from a blend of natural vegetable oils and waxes and suitable for use on most interior wooden surfaces, including wooden floors, doors, kitchen worktops, cupboards, skirting boards, spindles and furniture.

This product is better suited to lighter coloured timbers such as Pine, Oak, Beech etc. If used on dark exotic hardwoods such as Teak, Mahogany, Iroko or Ipe it could leave a milky, slightly white appearance to the timber.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from dust, dirt or any other surface contaminants prior to application of Hard Wax Oil Natural.

  • Existing oiled surfaces should be sanded back to bright, clean wood
  • Existing wax coatings should be removed with a wax and polish remover then lightly sanded
  • Pre-existing paints, varnishes and sealers must be completely removed via sanding or using a suitable paint and varnish remover
  • Fill in any holes or gaps in wooden floors with Fiddes Floor Repair Kit or with an alternative wood filler
  • To protect against mould and blue stain in moist surroundings, pre-treat with a suitable interior wood preservative, if necessary

Application

Application

Back

The video below demonstrates the application of the standard clear Hard Wax Oil. Although the application process will be the same for the 'Natural' version, the end result shown in this video shows the darker, slightly damp appearance of the standard clear oil.

Always do a test area before starting any project to check compatibility and suitability. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use. For the best results only apply at room temperatures.

  1. Apply with a natural bristle brush, lint-free cloth, microfibre roller or floor finish applicator
  2. Apply thinly and evenly, working the oil into the wood grain
  3. Remove any excess oil immediately with a clean, lint-free cloth
  4. Allow the first coat to fully dry, then apply a second coat as above

Please Note: Over application will result in a 'white wash' finish and in the worst cases white swirls, brush marks and a sticky or tacky surface.

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

Please note: This product is not compatible with the Fiddes Floor Reviver Kit. Use of this on top of surfaces treated with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Natural will cause the finish to yellow.

Regular Cleaning

For day to day cleaning, surfaces treated with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Natural can be dry wiped, swept or vacuumed.

Deep Cleaning

To clean surface scuffs, marks and stains, use Fiddes Floor Surface Cleaner and a damp (not wet) microfibre cloth or mop.

Please Note: Although Fiddes Cleaner is named 'Floor Surface Cleaner' it can be used on any surface treated with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil, including floors, furniture, table tops and kitchen worktops.

Alternatively, Fiddes Wood Surface Cleaner Spray can be used on these other surfaces.

Oiled or waxed floors and surfaces should never be cleaned with steam cleaners or steam mops as they can damage or strip the finish and potentially damage the wood.

Repair

Scuffs, stains, marks and minor scratches can be quickly and easily repaired.

  • Minor scuffs and blemishes can usually be removed by wiping over with a slightly damp microfibre cloth
  • Light damage such as stains can be easily repaired by lightly sanding the affected area and re-applying a fresh, thin coat of Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Natural
  • Heavy damage including scratches can be easily 'repaired' by sanding the affected area, back to the bare wood if necessary and re-applying a fresh coat of Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Natural

Does Fiddes Natural darken the wood ?

Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Natural (previously known as Oak Lightening) is formulated to keep the timber looking very much like its natural state without the usual darkening effect which is associated with using a clear oil.

What is the difference between Natural and Ultra Raw?

The Ultra Raw Fiddes Hard Wax Oil formula dries to a matt sheen, whereas the Natural variation dries to a soft satin sheen.

Excellent advise given
Samples received. Excellent advice for what product I needed for oak veneer doors. Goods sent promptly.

The tins hard to open
The wax is great, but you really need the right brush as it’s hard to fix without resanding. I had some left over and the tin was difficult to reopen/close as the wax had sealed it.

Easy to use A little goes a long way
Wood that has been treated with this product not been in use long enough to really say how good it is yet. But it's the company's help and advice that makes it worthwhile. I may well have bought inappropriate wood finishes had I not taken their advice.

A good price for a quality product
Good quality hard wax oil. Easy to handle and leaves a beautiful, even, finish. I’m using it as a sealer under a wax finish.

Easy to apply and dried to a very good finish
I purchased this oil to re-finish a pine door and door lining after sanding back to to previous oil finish. I applied 2 coats sparingly with a lint free cloth, and achieved a very smooth Matt finish. The oil flows readily and care in needed around mouldings and crevices in the wood to avoid the oil collecting and drying as it will to a white finish.

Love it
I really appreciated the detailed support and advice but then was disappointed to learn I had been sold the most expensive product and so much of it that I was called up as you thought I was a trader. Then to have to pay to return it as well was also disappointing. I felt at first empowered with my project but then patronised as a woman and slightly taken advantage of.
