Overview

Overview

Back

Dulux Trade Wood Primer is a solvent based, general purpose primer, suitable for use on all types of softwoods and hardwoods. For both interior and exterior use.

Please Note: Specialist primers may be needed for highly resinous woods.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

For the best results, ensure surfaces to be primed are clean, dry (new surfaces particularly must be fully dry) and free of dirt, grease or wax before treating.

  • Thoroughly rub down previously painted surfaces, using wet flatting methods where possible, then wipe off with a damp, lint-free cloth or vacuum to remove all traces of sanding dust
  • Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
  • Any surface defects should be filled with an appropriate wood filler
  • Treat any knots in wood with an appropriate knotting solution

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Do not apply at temperatures below 5°C. For Health & Safety reasons relating to all solvent-based paints, spray application is not recommended.

  1. Stir the undercoat thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply a single, even coat of Dulux Trade All Purpose Primer with a good quality synthetic paint brush or microfibre roller
  3. Allow 16 to 24 hours for the undercoat to fully dry
  4. Follow up with 1 or 2 coats of a chosen top coat

Aftercare
