Overview

Overview

Back

Dulux Trade Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior is part of a paint system specifically developed to give long lasting protection to exterior wood, primed metals and plastic surfaces. It contains a fungicide to inhibit mould growth on the paint film which helps it to stay cleaner for longer.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

To get the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry (new surfaces particularly must be fully dry) and free from all defective or poorly adhering material such as dirt, grease or wax.

  1. Thoroughly rub down previously painted surfaces, using "wet flatting" methods where possible, then wipe off with a dampened lint-free cloth to remove all traces of sanding dust
  2. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
  3. Remove all loose and defective coatings, if necessary stripping back to bare wood
  4. Remove and treat any mould, algae, lichen or moss with a suitable mould and mildew cleaner
  5. Remove defective glazing material, clean the rebates and any loose or open joints
  6. Replace any rotten wood and troublesome knots with new timber
  7. Apply 1 or 2 coats of an appropriate knotting solution to treat any remaining knots in wood
  8. Any surface defects should be filled with a suitable exterior wood filler
  9. Prime all bare wood with 2 coats of Dulux Trade Weathershield Preservative Primer followed by 1 coat of Dulux Trade Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Undercoat
  10. Allow 3 hours to dry before over-coating

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

For best colour consistency, purchase sufficient tinted paint for each job including touch-in at one time from the same source. When painting resinous wood or woodwork with a history of blistering it is advisable to use light colours only, particularly on south facing elevations.

This product is for brush application only and should not be sprayed. It does not require thinning. Do not use or store in extremes of temperature (or below 10°C), or when there is likely to be rain or fog, and protect from frost.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply 2 coats of Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior paint
  3. Where a special process colour is to be used or a strong colour change is required, additional coats will be required (see appropriate Dulux Trade colour card)
  4. Allow 4 hours between coats

When painting areas such as plastic rainwater goods, apply 1 coat of paint, thinned to 1 part water to 10 parts paint, direct to the surface.

Maintenance

Dulux Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Paint will protect surfaces against all weather conditions for 6 years. If after this time, the original coat starts to fade or wear, simply apply a fresh coat following the Preparation and Application instructions above.

Good exterior satin
Been using this before in non trade form but this seems to have a better finish and the bonus of a shorter redcoat time of 2-4 hours meaning I managed to coats in a day on my windows.
