For the best results, ensure that surfaces to be varnished are sound, clean, dry and free from all surface contaminates such as wax and oil.

Previously Treated Wood

  1. Remove all loose and defective coatings including previous coats of paint and varnish by sanding or by using a paint stripper
  2. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1970s paint surfaces they may contain harmful lead
  3. Thoroughly rub down all wooden surfaces in the direction of the grain to remove any grey, weathered wood and surface sheen from previous coatings
  4. Take care to remove all traces of sanding dust prior to varnishing
  5. Wood that has turned grey / silver as a result of sun damage can be treated with a suitable wood reviver or restorer

New or Bare Wood

  1. Fill any surface defects, open joints etc with a suitable exterior wood filler
  2. Seal all bare wood with 2 coats of a suitable wood preservative, including any new or bare replacement beading, then wipe off any excess basecoat from surrounding paintwork

Nice product
Leaves a great finish. Only problem I ran into was "what is brush cleaner" had to google it to find out what it contained. Also temperature limitations for application would be good to see.
