Preparation

To achieve optimum results, ensure surfaces to be painted are structurally sound, clean, dry and free from dirt, dust or any other surface contaminants.

  • Remove all loose and defective paint by either using a paint scraper, paint stripper or sanding down the project area
  • Special care should be taken if removing pre1960s paint as this could contain harmful levels of lead
  • Repair any defects such as cracks or holes with a suitable filler to produce a surface free of imperfections and then sand to a smooth finish
  • Any residue of oil or grease will need to be cleaned with a suitable detergent , rinsed and then allowed to dry thoroughly
  • If the project area was a previously gloss or lustre painted surface, then abrade with sandpaper to provide a key
  • It is recommended to use an undercoat to help Craig and Rose 1829 Eggshell Paint adhere to the surface if the project surface area is bare wood or plaster
  • When applying to new plaster pre-mist the project area or seal the plaster with an appropriate plaster sealer
  • If using two or more tins from different batches, then blend the paint together to ensure a consistent hue and tone of colour

Always complete a test area before starting any project to judge the suitability and final finish of the product

Only use in a well ventilated area, ensuring that airflow is properly maintained to lessen any effects from the V.O.C fumes.

  • Ensure the paint is well mixed, with the pigment being well blended with the emulsion medium, by stirring before the application and periodically throughout. It is advisable to also work the sides and the base of the tin to completely blend all areas of the paint.
  • Apply Craig and Rose 1829 Eggshell Paint evenly with either a brush or a roller
  • If the application is by a spray system then please refer to the manufacturer for the correct dilution ration
  • Avoid overspreading during the application and distribute the paint evenly throughout the project area
  • To clean the equipment after us remove any excess paint, wash with warm soapy water and rinse clean

The paint arrived the day after I had ordered it
The paint had been made up to the colour that I had asked for and the paint went on easily. The doors look brilliant. Will certainly use Wood Finishes Direct again, very helpful.

Very good quality paint
Many years ago we used to live near the Craig and Rose HQ and became aware of their paint and its famous role in painting the Forth Bridge. Decades on, and many miles south, we still choose to use this brand as it is good quality and comes in a wide range of pleasing colours. It's good to buy from Wood Finishes Direct as they get the paint to us quickly.

Great experience and the paint arrived quickly
We have used this paint for a long time and love it! It looks really lovely on all the woodwork in our Georgian house. So easy to use, brushes wash out easily.

Happy with product
Woods were the only stockists we could find for the paint we needed, and they delivered quickly and safely. Paint was exactly what we needed - will use again if needed.

Beautiful paint
Lovely thick paint. Gives a beautiful finish. After trying nine tester pots of other paints this was the one that compliments my new bathroom tiles perfectly.

Excellent paint and great service by Wood Finishes Direct
I needed an additional pot of this paint having run out. My local DIY Superstore didn't hold in stock and took 3-6 days to supply. Wood Finishes Direct were able to supply it to me in less than 24 hours and at a cheaper price. Excellent paint - it's not cheap but it's worth the investment as it is a joy to work with an excellent coverage. Would highly recommend both the paint and Wood Finishes Direct.

Beautiful colour and finish, but more than 2 coats were needed
The eggshell finish is lovely with a light sheen. I’m a fan of Craig and Rose paints, the French Ocre being the only one which has taken 3 or 4 coats to cover fully. Painted over white and grey with the same results.

Craig & Rose 1829 Vintage collection is my go to paint
Great depth of colour and texture, large worked area all dried without any roller witness marks.
