Bollom Intulac Ultra Topcoat

Apply only over Bollom Intulac Ultra Intumescent Basecoat. Complete any cleaning, repairs and preparation of the underlying wood before applying the basecoat, following Bollom's specification for bare or previously varnished timber.

Older paint coatings, particularly those applied before the 1960s, may contain lead. If these are present, seek advice on safe preparation before sanding or stripping.

• Remove dust, dirt and surface contamination before applying the basecoat
• Remove oil, wax, grease and release agents using a suitable cleaning product like Zinsser Universal Degreaser and Cleaner, ensuring no cleaning residues remain and the wood is dry
• Check existing varnish for sound adhesion and remove any loose or flaking areas before applying the specified basecoat system
• Check for cracks, holes and damaged timber, and complete any necessary repairs before coating. Confirm suitable fillers and repair materials with Bollom so they remain compatible with the fire protection system
• Apply the required basecoat coats at the specified coverage rate for bare or previously varnished timber
• Before topcoating, ensure the basecoat is dry and free from dust, oil, wax, grease and other contamination
• Allow at least 48 hours after the final basecoat coat, and apply Intulac Ultra Topcoat within a maximum of 4 days

Always apply to a small test area before starting to check compatibility and the finished appearance. Follow the instructions on the tin and Bollom's specification for the complete fire protection system.

Apply when the surface temperature is between 10°C and 40°C, with relative humidity no higher than 70%. The surface must be at least 3°C above the dew point to prevent condensation. Ensure good ventilation and keep away from heat, sparks and naked flames.

Airless Spray Application

• Apply undiluted using airless spray equipment with a pump ratio of at least 30:1
• Use a hose with an internal diameter of at least 3/8 inch, reserved for solvent-based coatings
• Use a nozzle size of 0.011-0.015 inches (0.28-0.38mm)

At approximately 20°C and 60% relative humidity, the coating is through dry in around 6 hours. Lower temperatures and higher humidity will extend drying times. Do not stack timber components treated with the Intulac Ultra system.

Clean equipment immediately after use with TH19 Thinners or xylene-based thinners. Do not use white spirit.

Keep the finished coating free from dust using a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive pads, harsh cleaning products and solvent cleaners that could damage the finish.

Check periodically for scratches, peeling or other damage. If repairs or redecoration are needed, contact Bollom for advice on restoring the specified fire protection system before applying further coatings.
