Overview

Overview

Back

Barrettine Teak Oil Spray is perfect for the care and maintenance of untreated and previously oiled garden furniture. It can also be used for other interior and exterior wood care projects.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Areas to be treated should be clean, dry and free from traces of dust, dirt, oil, grease, wax and silicone.

Exterior Wood

Bare or Untreated Wood

  1. Clean the wood with a stiff brush or broom and remove all traces of surface dirt and debris
  2. For areas affected by mould, algae or moss, use Barrettine Mould and Mildew Spray
  3. For the best protection, use an exterior wood preservative if suitable for the project
  4. If possible, preserve all sides including end grain prior to installation

Previously Finished Wood

Old coating-type finishes such as paints, varnishes and varnish-type stains must be fully removed back to bare wood before oiling. This can be done either by jet washing or a suitable paint stripper. Depending on the condition and type of finish, it may require more than one attempt to fully remove the old coating.

Old oiled finishes should be lightly sanded or cleaned thoroughly with white spirit.

Once the old finish has been completely removed / cleaned, refer to the preparation instructions for bare or untreated wood above.

New wood

Wipe down with Barrettine Methylated Spirits and allow to dry before oiling.

Interior Wood

  1. Existing oiled surfaces can be lightly rubbed back with meths then fully cleaned
  2. Pre-existing varnishes and sealers must be completely removed by sanding or using a suitable product stripper / remover
  3. Use an appropriate wood filler if repairing small dents and holes

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to check suitability and compatibility. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

  1. Spray Barrettine Teak Oil onto the wood surface thinly and evenly
  2. Work the oil into the wood with a natural bristle brush or a microfibre cloth
  3. Remove any excess oil from the surface of the wood
  4. Allow to dry thoroughly
  5. Apply additional coats as required, in the same manner as above

Maintenance

Additional coats of Barrettine Teak Oil Spray can be applied as and when the finish starts to look tired, worn or starts to lose its water resistance. Simply clean the wood surface first with a suitable garden cleaner, then apply a fresh coat of teak oil as per the Application instructions above.

Great results made easy
I've applied this to new and untreated teak garden furniture and it brings up the grain and colours beautifully. More importantly, after a few coats any rain just runs off. I will be buying more for further coats to keep everything protected going forward. Sprayer is easily topped up from 5l tin with funnel.

Good product, very effective and long lasting
I have been using Barrettine teak oil products for a while, always purchased from Wood Finishes Direct. I personally find it is best applied with a brush rather than using the spray, always removing surplus oil. Good product, reasonably priced.
