PeelAway 7 Paint Remover is a highly effective poultice stripper perfect for use on stone, brick plaster, wood, metal and more. Ideal for use on projects with intricate mouldings, such as ceiling roses, coving and cornices. Removes most modern architectural and domestic paints as well as many industrial and marine coatings. The blankets protect the paste from drying out, meaning the active ingredients are working for longer.

Container Contents:

  • 10kg (includes 10 x 1sqm of blanket and spatula and are located in the lid)
  • 4kg (includes 3 x 1sqm of blanket and spatula and are located in the lid)
  • 750g (includes 1sqm of blanket and spatula and are located in the lid)

For pre 1970's paints, we recommend PeelAway 1 Paint Remover.

Not sure what type of paint or varnish you have? We recommend trying the PeelAway 1 and 7 Sample Twin Pack first, to find out which product will work best for your project and to assess thickness and drying time requirements.

Preparation

Areas to be stripped should be clean, dry and free from any surface dirt and debris that may restrict contact and adhesion of the PeelAway 7. Ensure that any surfaces not intended to be stripped are covered and protected from this product.

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to test product performance and suitability. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

Test Area

Due to the multitude of paint and varnish formulations, it is vital that a test area is done to determine which approach is effective for removing the coating on the project to hand.

  1. Apply the paste to a small test area in different thicknesses (1mm, 2mm, 3mm) to determine which thickness of Peelaway is required to remove the coating
  2. Test the product at different duration's i.e. 1 hour to 48 hours to see how effective each has been

Application

Peel Away 7 will work slower under 5°C and will not work if temperature falls below 0°C. This product will not remove baked enamels, cement based paints or some types of 2 pack epoxy coatings.

  1. Apply PeelAway 7 with the provided spatula then cover with the PeelAway blanket
  2. Rub gently to ensure good adhesion and to remove any air bubbles
  3. Leave blanket between 30 minutes and 48 hours depending upon the results of the test patch
  4. Once the paste has permeated all of the layers, the blanket can be removed with the Peelaway Easy Grip Stripping Knife (sold separately)
  5. The stripping knife can also be used to remove any remaining residual from the surface

Please Note: Peelaway 7 has been designed to work on coatings produced from around 1972 onwards. If the area to be stripped has deeper layers from around 1972 and earlier, PeelAway 1 Paint Remover may be required to remove these older lead-based products. Be sure to read the manufacturer's instructions for use before applying to be sure you have the appropriate product for the project you are working on.

Which Peelaway product is best for my project?

We recommended buying the PeelAway 1 and 7 Sample Twin Pack. Not only will this tell you which Peelaway will work best for your specific project, you can also gauge how thick the product needs to be applied, to be effective against the coating that needs to be removed..

Has anyone used this on stairs which has gloss and varnish? I do not want it looking patchy.

This product is for use on a wide range of projects from wood, brick, concrete, metal and ornate plaster, it will remove multiple layers of paint and varnish. Try a test patch first to see if this is for you.

Will this remove paint with a sand texture from a narrow boat roof?

This product can remove some textured paint systems but test areas will be vital.

Would Peelaway7 work on a ceiling to remove paint? I won't be able to use the sheets as they'll just fall down?

The Peelaway product needs to remain moist for it to effectively remove paint and varnish. The blankets help keep the air away from the Peelaway so that it can get to work. If the blankets cannot stay on the ceiling, then this is not the right product for the project. This usually works well on vertical surfaces, try a test area first to assess its performance. Take a look at PeelAway 1 and 7 Sample Twin Pack for more information.

How much will a tub of 750g cover?

As this product covers up to 1m² per litre, a 750kg tub will cover 0.75 m².

How do you use PeelAway 7 to get rid of old paint from plaster and brick in a bathroom?

After you have completed your sample using the PeelAway 1 and 7 Sample Twin Pack, you will need to prepare the areas. Ensure good ventilation in the bathroom by opening windows and using an extractor fan if possible. Wear protective gloves, goggles, and a mask. Protect and cover the surrounding areas that you don't want to treat. by using LickTools Tape and Drape. Give the surface a good clean to remove loose dirt and dust and ensure the product adheres properly.

Apply PeelAway 7 using the provided spatula. Aim for around 1-3mm thick, depending on the number of paint layers. For plaster, use a thinner layer to avoid damaging the surface. Cover the product with the PeelAway Blankets that are provided, smoothing it off to remove air bubbles. This helps keep the product moist and aids in the removal process.

Works really well
Working well on several layers of paint and varnish on the woodwork in my house built in 1912. I have had to redo some small areas twice, however I expected that because of the number of layers and possibly my not being generous enough with the product

Very effective for removing paint from brick
I bought this product to remove some paint on the front exterior wall of my house. I left it for several days because it didn’t seem to dry as I had seen in online videos. After several days it still was not dry so we decided to peel it off and scrape away what we could. To be honest when we peeled off the plastic it didn’t seem to have worked. However on hosing down the wall and scraping with a wire brush, all the paint came away effortlessly. I would definitely buy this product again.

Brilliant for stripping old furniture
I’ve tried many paint strippers but this is by far the best one. I’ve used it to strip old vintage furniture and it strips that well I don’t always need to sand. Tried it on metal and it lifts the old paint straight off.

Arrived faulty/spoiled?
The wood finishes team were so helpful when I found this pot to be partially dried up and very lumpy. The tester pot worked very well on more modern wood and paint

Good product
I got asked to review my order and thought who the heck wood finishes direct is to google it and realised I bought some paint stripper from them ?, anyway I bought the paint stripper as the previous person made a mess of paining in my current property, so I have a pleasure of undoing their stupidness, the paint stripper is good works great on paint, but takes a few goes on gloss as 3 coats in I still have gloss where I dont want. But it's all good ?

Very useful for paint stripping woodwork and cornicing
We've bought a lot of PeelAway 7 over the last couple of months as we began to redecorate a recently purchased flat. I would definitely recommend for paint-stripping wood work and cornicing. We have, however, noticed some variability in the consistency of the Peelaway 7 poultice paste. Sometimes it's the consistency of butter-cream, sometimes more like a pudding and sometimes less emulsified. Am not sure if there's any difference in terms of performance, but it definitely handles differently when applying.

Works, Clean Up Can be Messy!
Stripped gloss off a textured brick fireplace in situ. Need to trial the most effective ‘leave-on’ time but once you’ve done some test patches and got it sorted, it’s straightforward paint and varnish removal. Textured brick I used it on, still required a thorough, but careful scrubbing with wire brush and washing down to remove paint stuck in the bricks dimples. Pleased with the result.

In my case in didn’t do a great job
Not sure if I put enough of the paste on the brickwork or whether autumn temperatures are too low to apply but it just didn’t do anything to the paintwork. I found the spatula that’s supplied not being very good so I used my kitchen silicon one, that worked much better. Will give it a go on woodwork at home but for the brickwork it didn’t work in my case.
