Overview

Overview

Back

Smith & Rodger Rocktop Multi-Surface Clearcoat is a tough and durable coating ideal for use on interior wooden floors, doors, kitchen worktops and furniture. It seals a wide range of surfaces, such as painted walls (including bathroom walls), vinyl floors, brick, stone, wallpaper, tile and cork.

Please Note: If using as an additive for emulsion paint, mix in no more than 20% of Rocktop to emulsion.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

For best results, ensure surfaces to be coated are sound, clean, dry and free from dust, dirt, wax, grease, oil or any other surface contaminants.

  1. Sand wooden surfaces to remove all loose and defective paint
  2. Take care to remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner or damp, lint-free cloth
  3. Coated surfaces in good condition should be sanded back to provide a good surface key and final finish
  4. Where the existing coating is defective (cracking, peeling, flaking) it must be completely removed
  5. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to test product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Do not use below 13°C or in areas of high humidity or condensation.

  1. Stir or shake thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply using a good quality synthetic brush or microfibre roller
  3. Apply 1 - 2 coats on painted walls, stone walls and wallpaper
  4. On wooden doors, worktops and skirting, apply 3 coats evenly and consistently, following the grain of the wood
  5. For wooden floors, apply 4 coats for extra durability and protection
  6. When re-coating, allow 2 hours between coats
  7. Rub down lightly (denib) along the grain between coats using a fine grade adhesive paper or denibbing pad

Please Note: The floor will take light foot traffic approximately 24 hours after the final application and heavy foot traffic 3 days after final application. Allow the surface to fully dry for at least 5 days before covering with carpets or other floor coverings, or loading with heavy objects. Also avoid damp mopping the floor until after this time.

Cleaning Equipment

Clean brushes and rollers immediately after use, using warm, soapy water.
