Overview

Overview

Back

Smith & Rodger Blockade Shellac Sealer Primer is a quick drying coating for stains caused by fire, smoke, water, and nicotine, on interior surfaces. It permanently kills stains and odours, and effectively covers dark paint colours, crayon marks, ink, rust and lipstick. Seals grease and porous surfaces, including new plaster. Ideal for use on interior ceilings, walls, doors, and furniture. Can be overcoated with any paint.

Please Note: Blockade is not for exterior use, apart from spot priming resinous knots in timber.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

For the best results, ensure surfaces to be coated are sound, clean, dry and free from all defective or poorly adhering material such as dirt, grease, paint or adhesives. If needed, clean surface using an appropriate ammoniated cleaning solution. Never use tri sodium phosphate based cleaners.

  1. Take special precautions during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
  2. Sand all edges of remaining coating until smooth
  3. Clean as much of the existing stain as possible, prior to priming
  4. Remove and treat any mould and mildew on interior surfaces using an appropriate cleaner
  5. Fill any nail holes and imperfections with a suitable multi-purpose filler and spot prime the area
  6. Spot prime any knots and resin streaks prior to coating
  7. All areas of rust should be cleaned using a wire brush

Application

  1. Stir or shake thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply using a good quality synthetic brush, microfibre roller or spray gun, thinning with methylated spirits if needed
  3. Apply 1 full coat to prepared surfaces. A second coat on very porous surfaces may be necessary
  4. Touch dry in 15 minutes, allow 45 minutes between coats
  5. Overcoat with any paint finish 45 minutes after final coat has dried
  6. Fully cured in 3 days

Cleaning Equipment

Clean brushes and rollers immediately after use, using methylated spirit. For dried on primer, soak in methylated spirit overnight

Easier to use and less smelly than the alternative!
I love Blockade. I've tried ZB and hated every second using it. Blockade is so much easier to use and far less smelly than ZB and it works, so what more could you ask for in a product!
