Overview

Overview

Back

Sadolin Beautiflex can be applied to new and previously painted or stained surfaces, including decking, and is ideal for use where a complete change of colour is required, or where the existing surface has become weathered and uneven in appearance. Fade, weathering and UV resistant. It's microporous formulation resists cracking and peeling.

Please Note: This product should not be used over oil finishes.

Sadolin suggests this product can offer up to 7 years protection. Due to the nature of different surfaces, this excludes decking.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Timber surfaces must be suitably prepared, clean and dry. The moisture content should not exceed 18% prior to coating.

Bare or New Timber

  1. Resinous deposits should be removed with a scraper
  2. Degrease any exposed bare timber surface by wiping with a lint-free cloth, dampened with methylated spirits
  3. Any grey denatured exposed timber surfaces must be thoroughly sanded back to clean, bright timber
  4. Organic growths must be removed and infected surfaces should be treated with a suitable mould and mildew cleaner
  5. Remaining sound surfaces should be cleaned using warm water and a mild detergent, then rinsed thoroughly with clean water
  6. Knotting agents should not be used with Sadolin opaque systems
  7. Fillers specifically designed for use with timber such as Sadolin Wood Filler and Sadolin Stainable Wood Filler should be used for making good any minor surface defects, imperfections and open joints
  8. Only use non-ferrous screws, nails and fixings
  9. Any non-preservative-treated softwood timber should be treated with two liberal coats of Sadolin Quick Drying Wood Preserver, paying particular attention to end grains and allowing 24 hours drying time between coats, prior to over-coating with Sadolin Beautiflex
  10. Where possible, the base coat should be applied all round prior to fixing
  11. Do not use Sadolin Beautiflex on substrates which have had water-repellent preservative treatments applied

Previously Coated Timber

  1. Lightly abrade in the direction of the wood grain
  2. Do not break through the surface coating
  3. Where there is localised damage, or deterioration has occurred as a result of exposure of a factory-applied coating for longer than 3 months, affected areas should be thoroughly sanded back to a sound substrate and recoated
  4. Remove any sanding dust

Decking

  1. Prepare as above instructions for New Timber or Existing Coatings
  2. For best results, decking boards should be coated all round with Beautiflex Solvent Opaque Woodstain

Glazing

  1. The backs of new glazing beads, end grains and rebates should be brought to a finish with Sadolin Beautiflex prior to fixing
  2. Joinery to be coated with Sadolin opaque systems should be glazed using a suitable sealant
  3. The use of linseed oil putty or modified, non-setting compounds are not recommended in conjunction with Sadolin systems
  4. To confirm compatibility, please consult the manufacturer of the relevant glazing material
  5. Silicone glazing materials should only be applied upon completion of the finishing coats

Application

Application

Back

Always do a small test area before beginning any project to assess consistency and compatibility of the final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Do not apply if there is a risk of rain, or when air / substrate temperatures are below 5°C or above 25°C or the relative humidity is above 80% during application or drying periods. Protect from frost and rain until dry. Failure to meet these requirements may adversely affect the drying, visual quality and durability of the finish.

Ensure product is thoroughly stirred before and during application, otherwise sheen and colour variations may be experienced. Sadolin Beautiflex is supplied ready for use. Do not thin.

  1. Apply in a full flowing coat, ensuring all surfaces and end grains are fully coated
  2. For best results, use a good quality, long haired synthetic brush
  3. Pay special attention to end grain, tops and bottoms of doors, and undersides of sills
  4. Where possible, the base coat should be applied all round prior to fixing
  5. Finish with a minimum of 2 full coats of Sadolin Beautiflex, allowing 16-24 hours drying time between coats
  6. On certain substrates and when overcoating dark shades with pale shades, it may be necessary to apply an additional coat to achieve full coverage

Cleaning Equipment

Clean brushes and equipment with a proprietary brush cleaner immediately after use. If spilled, remove immediately while still wet, using a proprietary cleaner.

Maintenance

The need for maintenance is indicated by a lightening in colour, reduction in sheen as the coating erodes, and a loss of water repellent qualities.

  1. All defective coatings should be completely removed
  2. Any grey denatured exposed timber surfaces must be thoroughly sanded back to clean, bright timber
  3. Organic growths must be removed and infected surfaces should be treated with a suitable fungicidal solution
  4. Remaining sound surfaces should be cleaned using warm water and a mild detergent, then rinsed thoroughly with clean water
  5. Bare timber should be patch primed with one extra coat of Sadolin Beautiflex
  6. Finish with 1 or 2 coats of Sadolin Beautiflex as required

Haven't used it yet
I'm sure it will be fine when I use it. Very few companies provide a durable white, opaque finish for cladding
