Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint is ideal for renovating and transforming old and new furniture. It is suitable for use on wood, brickwork, plaster, metal and plastic. Most surfaces require no priming or sanding.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that furniture and other interior wooden surfaces to be painted are clean, dry and free from dirt, dust and any other surface contaminates.

Simply wipe down surface prior to applying to bare wood, old paint or varnish.

Application

Application

Back

Always do a small test area to assess the colour and compatibility of the finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Chalky Furniture Paint should only be applied in temperatures above 10°C. Stir the paint thoroughly before and periodically during use to ensure a consistent finish.

  1. Apply the Paint with a good quality synthetic brush in the direction of the wood grain, when coating wood furniture
  2. Apply 1 - 2 coats, leaving 4 hours between coats
  3. If paint is too thick, thin using a little water until desired consistency is achieved (A textured finish with thicker paint and a smoother finish with thinner paint)

Distressed Look

  1. Apply one coat of base colour, using a good quality synthetic brush
  2. Allow to dry for 4 hours before applying 1 coat of top colour
  3. Once the top colour has dried, using a fine grade sandpaper (240 grit) lightly sand areas on the surface where the base colour is required to show through
  4. If too much of the top colour has been sanded, simply re-coat and allow to dry. Taking care not to over sand
  5. For added durability and protection, overcoat using a light coating of Rust-Oleum Clear Wax
  6. Allow to dry for 5 minutes and the buff surface, using a lint free cloth

Cleaning Equipment

Clean brushes and rollers immediately after use, using warm, soapy water.

Can I paint wicker baskets with this Chalky Furniture Paint?

Wicker baskets have a lot of movement to them; we wouldn't advise using a paint on this substrate as the paint would fail prematurely.
