Overview

Overview

Back

Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler can be drilled, sanded, planed, carved, screwed and filed once dry. It is easily mixed with the supplied catalyst and simple to push in with a filling knife.

Please Note: Due to the nature and different absorbency levels of wood, the filler may stain / varnish differently to the surrounding wood. This product is not suitable for gaps between floorboards.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure areas to be filled are clean, dry and free from loose dirt or other contaminants.

  • Any loose flaking paint or varnish must be removed, and the area lightly sanded before application
  • Softened wood, such as that caused by wet rot, should be removed and replaced with new wood if possible or treated with Ronseal Wet Rot Wood Hardener, which strengthens and reinforces rotten fibres to provide a solid base for wood fillers

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

Initial Procedure

  1. Measure out a 38mm line of catalyst using the measure on the spreader included in the pack
  2. Using a folding action, mix a golf ball equivalent volume of Ronseal Wood Filler, approximately 38mm diameter, with an approximate pea-sized amount of the catalyst
  3. The plastic lid is a good base for mixing
  4. Mix until filler and catalyst are thoroughly combined and uniform in colour

Application

  1. Apply Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler with a filling knife, working well into the damaged area, and removing any excess
  2. Working time is approximately 10 minutes
  3. Leave the filler slightly proud for sanding
  4. After 20 minutes, the filler can be carved or shaped with a modelling knife
  5. After 30 minutes, it can be sanded, planed or filed

Please Note: Large, deep repairs may require longer to dry. Do not return mixed filler back into the pack.

Finishing

Finishing

Back

Once Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler has set and has been sanded, a suitable paint, stain or varnish may be applied.

F.A.Q.

F.A.Q.

Back
Can I oil my fence after using the Ronseal 2 part wood filer?

No, as oil penetrates into the wood grain it will bind with the fibres and may have a reaction with the filler, dislodging it. Also, the oil will be unable to penetrate into the filler as it dries quite solid.

Can I use this when it's very cold outside 1-2 degrees?

During low temperatures, the hardening time of the filler will decrease. You may need to use more catalyst to aid the formula cure. These are not ideal circumstances for this product to be used. We would instead suggest looking at Repair Care BIO FLEX COOL which is specifically designed to be used during cold weather conditions.

Our village has a large oak sculpture which has a long deep crack, would Ronseal High Performance Filler be suitable to repair this damage?

Potentially. Would the filler be bonding to bare wood or to a coating on the sculpture? How deep or wide is the repair? What are your plans for the sculpture after repair- will it be refinished and will it be kept internally or externally?

Like most wood finishing projects, there are many variables to consider. Why not call our Woodcare Experts on 01303 213838 to discuss your options.

Can be challenging for first time user
Once you have the correct amount of hardener mixed with wood filler then you have a good chance of making a good repair. It took three attempts to get a workable consistency as it went hard very quickly. I used the recommended golf ball/ pea amounts and had to reduce the amount of hardener to get workable paste. Luckily there was enough filler in tin to complete the job successfully.

Good stuff!
What you ‘see’ is what you get. No amazing revelations, but then no dramas either.

Recommend company and product
Excellent service.by company but as usual Royal Mail took a week to deliver in this area ! Ronseal High Performance Woodfiller is amazing. It has worked brilliantly on window sills and now have rock hard sills again where rain had got in and damaged wood .
