Overview

Overview

Back

Polyvine Wood Oil is perfect for all interior and exterior, softwood and hardwood surfaces, including wooden doors, floors, furniture, fencing, cladding, joinery and more.

Please note: Some of the tins supplied by Polyvine have the old label that states 'exterior' only. This product is suitable for interior and exterior use as per the new product label.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Timber surfaces to be treated should be clean, thoroughly dry and free from dust, dirt, grease, oil or any other surface contaminants.

Bare or New Timber

  1. Lightly sand new or bare timber to provide a key, removing any sanding dust
  2. Wipe the surface down with a lint-free cloth dampened with methylated spirit
  3. Remove any mould or algae growth with a dedicated cleaner
  4. Fill any gaps or minor imperfections in the wood surface with a suitable Wood Filler
  5. If the timber is not pressure treated, apply an appropriate wood preservative treatment

Previously Treated Timber

  1. Any old coatings must be removed by sanding back to bare wood or using a dedicated wood stripper
  2. Then treat as 'New Timber' above

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to asses product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Do not apply to exterior wood when rain is imminent. Do not apply at temperatures below 5°C.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use to ensure a consistent finish
  2. Apply a thin, even coat, working the oil into the grain of the wood and brush out well
  3. For best results, use a good quality natural bristle brush or clean, lint free cloth
  4. Allow the first coat a minimum of 12 hours to dry, then apply a second coat
  5. Allow 12 hours for the second coat to fully dry

Please note: Timbers containing high natural oils, e.g. Teak and Iroko, may inhibit drying and cause impaired penetration. Wiping these timbers with methylated spirit will assist penetration.

Application rollers, sponges, pads and clothes soaked in this product, may spontaneously combust if left. Dispose of applicators after soaking in water then allowing to dry in a safe environment.

Maintenance

If the finish starts to show signs of wear or starts losing it's protective or water-resistant qualities over time, apply a fresh coat of Polyvine Wood Oil. Ensure the area is clean and dry. If required, the area to be restored can be lightly sanded or cleaned with a dedicated wood cleaner to remove any stubborn or ingrained surface dirt. Then follow the 'preparation' & 'application' instructions above.

Transformed my windows
Great product. Instantly made my oak windows look good as we had just bought the house and the windows had never been treated before! I would highly recommend

Economical and durable
Easy to apply very sparingly with a brush, and leaves an excellent finish! The only outdoor furniture finish to be durable.

Penetrated into the wood very well, and looks good
Cannot tell yet - time will tell! - but gave the outdoor tables two coats which penetrated well.

Applies easily
Applies easily and with little mess. Dries with a smooth finish though it does dry darker than expected.
