Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from dust, grease, wax, polish and any other surface contamination before application.

Bare or New Wood
  1. Fill any cracks, gaps or surface imperfections with a suitable interior wood filler and allow to dry fully
  2. Lightly sand the surface to smooth the timber and promote adhesion
  3. Remove all sanding dust thoroughly using a vacuum or lint-free cloth
  4. Degrease if required using a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with Methylated Spirit
Previously Varnished or Painted Surfaces
  1. Ensure existing coatings are sound, clean and firmly adhered
  2. Lightly sand to create a key for improved adhesion
  3. Remove all sanding dust prior to application
  4. Where existing coatings are flaking or unstable, strip back using a suitable paint stripper, then sand smooth and clean before varnishing

Application

Application

Back

Always carry out a test area before starting your project to confirm compatibility and final appearance. Follow the instructions on the container at all times.

Polyvine Interior Extreme Varnish should not be applied over uncured oil based paints, as this may cause discolouration. When applying over emulsion or latex paint, underlying stains may become visible. If this occurs, use a suitable stain block primer before varnishing.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and during use. Do not shake
  2. Apply using a good quality synthetic bristle brush or suitable roller. For spray application, consult the manufacturer's guidance.
  3. Apply 2 to 3 thin, even coats for best performance
  4. On porous surfaces, dilute the first coat with up to 10 percent water
  5. Allow each coat to dry fully before applying the next
  6. Do not apply in damp, cold or excessively humid conditions
Cleaning Equipment

Clean brushes, rollers and spray equipment immediately after use with warm soapy water. Remove splashes while still wet using a damp, lint free cloth. Dried residues may require a suitable paint remover.
