Overview

Overview

Back

Cascamite Wood Glue is a fast acting powdered resin wood glue for interior and exterior joinery. Ideal for projects requiring a high strength bond, filling gaps and has good water resistance - producing a stronger bond than the wood itself. Suitable for a wide range of surfaces, such as exterior joinery, windows, doors, garden furniture, gates, shopfitting, interior joinery, kitchens, worktops, bathrooms, laminating and veneer.

Please note: The powdered resins dry to a semi-white finish. It is not quite clear or white but somewhere in-between. This can be mixed to a variety of shades and colours using a water-based liquid dye.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure the wood substrate is sound, smooth, level, clean, dry and free of any dust, dirt, wax, loose paint, incompatible curing compounds or fire retardant chemicals, fungicides, release agents, sealers, or any other foreign substances that might interfere with a good bond.

  • Joints should be well fitted and smooth
  • To avoid wood or joint fracture, ensure that both substrates to be bonded have no more than 3% difference in moisture content between them
  • Any wood stored in cold temperatures should be brought above 10°C before applying the adhesive
  • For dense timber like oak, sand the surface to open up the pores - applying a double spread of glue may be necessary to ensure both surfaces have sufficiently "wetted" out
  • Wipe oily timbers down with methylated spirit to degrease the surface

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and end result. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines on the container at all times, following any special precautions.

Do not apply in damp conditions, when rain is likely, or in temperatures below 10°C - between 15°C and 20°C is ideal.

  1. Open the pail and removed desired quantity of powder adhesive, resealing the pail immediately
  2. Add the powder to a suitable plastic container, do not use copper, iron brass or steel containers
  3. Mixing by weight is recommended, at a ratio of 2 parts Cascamite powder to 1 part water, stirring continuously until all powder is dissolved
  4. Up to 20% extra water can be added to improve the flow
  5. Once mixed, allow the glue to stand for a short while to release any trapped air
  6. Apply the adhesive using a strong bristled brush, to one surface only
  7. Working time is around 3 hours at 15°C
  8. If needed, clamp whilst the glue is wet using pins or screws, keeping the joint under pressure until it has set
  9. Remove any excess adhesive with a lint-free cloth whilst the adhesive is still wet
  10. Once it has hardened, it can be cleaned off mechanically
  11. Tack time is 5 hours at 10°C, 2 hours at 20°C and 1 hour at 30°C
  12. Curing time is 27 hours at 10 °C, 12 hours at 20°C and 3 hours at 30°C. Keep some leftover glue, when it's gone hard, this will indicate it's cured

Please note: If bonded wood is to be turned on a lathe, it is recommended the wood be seasoned for a minimum of one week before turning.

For a guide to press pressure on adhesive, please refer to the Technical Data Sheet supplied

Cleaning Equipment

Application equipment must be cleaned using cold water before the glue sets.
