Overview

Overview

Back

Osmo Wood Wax Finish Transparent is suitable for protecting and decorating interior wood, including wall panelling, mouldings, beams and doors, as well as edge-glued panels, chipboard and MDF.

Before opening the 5ml sample sachets, squeeze the packet several times to ensure that the oil and pigments inside are thoroughly mixed.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Wood surfaces to be treated with Wood Wax Finish Transparent must be clean, dry and free from dust, dirt and any other surface contaminants.

  • Surface coatings such as paint, varnish and other surface sealers must be fully removed by sanding or with a suitable paint and varnish remover
  • Fill cracks or holes in wood with Osmo Interior Wood Filler or Osmo Interior Gap Sealer
  • For extra protection against blue stain, a coat of Osmo Wood Protector (4006) may be applied if desired
  • Wood must be sanded correctly and evenly to achieve a consistent finish. Starting with a coarse paper - final sanding for flooring should be with a P80 to P120 grit sandpaper and P120 to P150 for furniture
  • Thoroughly remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner before application

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Applying Osmo Wood Wax Finish

  1. For a transparent finish, apply Osmo Wood Wax Finish thinly and evenly along the wood grain with either an Osmo Soft Tip Brush, a lint-free cloth or a sponge and spread well
  2. If possible, apply the first coat to all sides of the timber before installation
  3. Allow good ventilation whilst drying
  4. For a light leached effect, wipe off oil after approximately 20 minutes using either a lint free cloth or white pad going along the grain
  5. If a more intense colour tone is required, a second thin coat can be applied, up to a maximum of two coats
  6. For the most intensive colour tones, we recommend using Osmo Wood Wax Finish Intensive
  7. For cupboards, wardrobes and drawers, only 1 thin coat of Osmo Wood Wax Finish Transparent should be applied with a cloth

Please Note: The final surface quality is dependent on the type of wood, its surface structure and preparation.

Finishing

Finishing

Back

If applying the 'White 3111' variation to flooring or staircases, it is recommended that it is over-coated with one coat of Osmo Polyx Oil Raw (3044) or Osmo Polyx Oil Tints White (3040) to retain the whiteness of the finish. Standard 'Polyx Oil' tends to turn white finishes 'creamy' or 'off white'. This advice is for the 'White 3111' version of this product only. All other shades can be finished with a single coat of Osmo Polyx Oil if necessary.

Regular Cleaning

Surfaces treated with Osmo Wood Wax Finish Transparent should be dry wiped from time to time with a soft, lint-free cloth. To remove day to day, dust, dirt, scuffs and light marks use Osmo Spray Cleaner.

Alternatively, surfaces can be cleaned at regular intervals with Osmo Wash and Care (8016).

Deep Cleaning

For more stubborn marks, light scratches or if the surface is starting to look tired or worn, an application of Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner may be required. For intensive cleaning, without sanding, use Osmo Intensive Cleaner.

Back
Can Wood Wax Finish be used on flooring?

This can be used on flooring but only 1 coat should be applied. A 2nd coat of the more durable Osmo Polyx Oil should be applied over the top.

Excellent product, but decided on a lighter shade
Very easy to apply and darkens down to the quoted colour as it dries. Excellent product!

Excellent product
We had a wood/Laminate wooden floor that didn't look it's best after being down for a few years, this product worked a treat and the floor now looks great although it did take 5 days to dry properly but well worth it.

Great product
Great product and so happy that you can get samples to ensure suitability. I wasted a fair bit of money on products that weren't as expected so pleased that osmo made it easier for me.

Great product
Easy to use and great finish when applied
Paul Rankine. Light Oak - 3103, 375ml (04/02/25)

Classy finish with careful application
You have to be careful with the oils that have a solids content to make sure the product is spread evenly, other than that, easy to apply, dries hard and takes beeswax polish for a fine finish.

Best natural-looking darker option for wood
Used for a large set of sliding doors and the colour is perfect for what was required and matching other furniture. The only downside with the product is the price. The Osmo pricing is too excessive and unreasonable. Buying larger amounts will be better value for money, but for me, as I buy what I need to depending on customer choices, it costs me a fortune but I don't have any other option.

As is often said in this instance it’s so true “Does what it says on the tin”
Bought to re paint summerhouse floor. Needed a hard durable finish resistant to certain liquids. There was enough paint to give a second coat as recommended I have used Osmo products previously on a similar garden building, so I was confident regards the quality of the products.
