Overview

Overview

Back

Osmo Wood Wax Finish Intensive is ideally suited for use on all indoor wood surfaces, including (but not exclusive to) wooden wall panelling, mouldings, beams, doors, as well as wood in moist environments, such as kitchens and bathrooms. It is also suitable for edge-glued panels, chipboard & MDF, children's toys and as a coloured primer for wooden flooring, as well as for re-coating darkened wood surfaces.

Before opening the 5ml sample sachets, squeeze the packet several times to ensure that the oil and pigments inside are thoroughly mixed.

Please note: In general, one coat produces a translucent matt finish whilst 2 coats produces an opaque finish with a slight sheen. This may vary depending on the wood type and how it has been sanded. For this reason, we always recommend doing a test area before starting any project.

The 'White Matt' version of this product (code 3186) is designed to produce a completely 'matt' finish.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure wooden surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from dust, dirt and any other surface contaminants prior to application of Osmo Wood Wax Finish Intensive .

  • Clean old microporous stains thoroughly
  • Old paints and lacquers must be completely removed
  • Sand the wood surface carefully, beginning with coarse sandpaper - final sanding work for flooring P100-150; for furniture P180-240
  • Before applying wax finish on wood, remove sanding dust from the surface by sweeping or vacuuming
  • Fill small cracks, larger joints or holes in wood with Osmo Interior Wood Filler or Osmo Interior Gap Sealer
  • For additional protection against blue stain, rot and mildew, pre-treat with Osmo Wood Protector (4006)

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Stir thoroughly before use and allow for good ventilation while drying.

  1. Apply Osmo Wood Wax Finish Intensive very thinly to the wood surface, along the wood grain, with an Osmo Soft Tip Brush, Osmo Premium Microfibre Roller or sponge, and spread evenly
  2. For a more subtle stained effect, apply thinly with a lint-free, cotton cloth and within 20 minutes, wipe away cleanly and evenly
  3. For high traffic/wear areas such as floors, table tops and desks, apply only 1 single coat of Wood Wax Finish Intensive, then protect with the harder wearing top coat of clear Osmo Polyx Oil. Alternatively, try Osmo Polyx Oil Tints White (3040) or Osmo Polyx Oil Raw (3044) for a non-yellowing finish.
  4. For furniture and low wear areas, apply 1 thin coat to achieve a matt, semi-translucent effect, or 2 coats for a stronger satin-matt shade that blocks the wood grain

Regular Cleaning

Light marks and dirt can be removed by cleaning the affected surface with a mixture of water and Osmo Wash And Care.

Alternatively, Osmo Spray Cleaner (8026) can be used.

Repair

For light scratches, use Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner. If marks go deeper into the wood then a light sanding is required before applying a further coat of Osmo Wood Wax Finish Intensive to the affected area.

Back
Can Wood Wax Finish be used on flooring?

This can be used on flooring but only 1 coat should be applied. A 2nd coat of the more durable Osmo Polyx Oil should be applied over the top.

Application with a cloth is quite onerous
I thought it would have a more glossy finish than it does.

Lovely limed effect
Takes a bit of elbow grease to apply although I did it using a lint free cloth. It looked quite white when I’d finished but the next day it appeared lighter with the wood showing through - this is the effect I wanted so didn’t apply another coat. Finished it with two coats on Matt Osmo Polyx oil. It’s beautiful

Too white for my needs
No reflection on the product, but for my personal preference it is too close to white for me. I also bought this in pebble which was much better for my project.

Liked the sample
Gives a nice matt finish in a nice off white tone. Can’t say much more as I have only used it as a sample to test the colour.

Great product and easy to apply
First time using the intensive finish and it did not disappoint. Really pleased with the overall effect and colour. Used to renovate furniture and found one coat more than adequate.

Great way to finish a pine cladding wardrobe I built
Loved using this. Very thin coat. Just be aware of drying time. You have to leave it long enough to dry . You can’t rush it.

Fantastic product
Firstly I used the osmo pebble 3181 intensive On a pine dining table I made, and finished with the raw 3044 top oil to protect, both product really nice to use. I applied with a mohair roller head and pad out with brush. Fantastic results

Certainly an intense colour
It was on a difficult base and needed 4 coats. I was apprehensive it might resemble a paint and to some extent it did, but not so it detracted from the effect I set out to achieve. I used a microfibre roller and hake brush for corners and brushing out. I find it surprising how much pigment this hard wax oil can carry. I have used Mixol pigments fairly successfully with other hard wax oils but this product is in a different universe. Methanol is the only medium with which I have achieved this degree of colour density using Mixol. That needs to be stabilised with 2 coats of clear oil. And that distances the colour to some extent.

A note from us...
Thank you for sending in some feedback on this product. This particular oil is a high pigment product, which as a result is slightly less durable than that of the Polyx Oils, which have a lower pigment content.

This is of course for projects that require more colour, however it is still a two coat only product, once the wood becomes saturated with the oil the excess dries on the surface and does not give the desired result.

You can apply one coat followed by a Polyx product for protection on flooring or worktops or two coats if only minimal protection is required and colour is more important. The product is still moisture repellent and easy to clean and maintain however.
