Overview

Overview

Back

Osmo Uviwax is a self-priming finish for interior wall and ceiling panelling, as well as cabinets and doors. It shields the lignin in the wood against harmful UV rays, reducing the natural yellowing of the wood over time and preserving the natural, light-coloured wood tone for longer.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Wooden surfaces must be clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 18%).

  1. Old paints and lacquers must be completely removed back to bare wood
  2. Old microporous coatings such as oils and waxes should be thoroughly cleaned or removed
  3. Lightly sand wood with an abrasive if required
  4. For furniture, sand with P180-240 grit
  5. Remove all traces of sanding dust with a brush or vacuum cleaner prior to application of Osmo Uviwax
  6. Degrease very resinous woods (e.g. Larch) with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner or Methylated Spirits

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Only apply in temperatures of above 10°C. Osmo Uviwax UV Protection is ready to use, no thinning required. Stir well before and periodically during use.

  1. Apply directly to raw wood with an Osmo Soft Tip Brush or a soft, lint-free cloth
  2. Spread thinly and evenly along the wood grain
  3. Allow to dry for approx. 3-4 hours with good ventilation
  4. If necessary, lightly sand or denib the surface with a P320 - P360 sandpaper before applying the second coat
  5. Apply second coat in same manner as first

Aftercare

Regular Cleaning

Osmo Uviwax can be cleaned with a slightly dampened lint-free cloth. Avoid using large amounts of water, household detergents and steam cleaners as these may degrade the finish or damage the wood.

Deep Cleaning

For stubborn marks, stains and scuffs, clean with Osmo Wash and Care (8016).

Renovation and Repair

Stubborn stains and marks can be lightly sanded with a scotch pad or fine abrasive, to remove the damage, before re-applying a thin coat of UV Protection Wax to the effected area. One coat applied to the clean and dry surface is usually sufficient.

Can I use Uviwax on my floor?

Uviwax is unsuitable for flooring as it is just not durable enough. Instead, consider a pigmented product or a suitable Wood Floor Finish with UV resistance

Superior paint
This was recommended by a friend, and it did exactly what I wanted - used it on kitchen shelves, leaving the grain and texture on display but offering protection from heat and grease. I didn't want the full painted look of normal gloss. This goes on well, dries quickly and looks really good after a second coat. Barely any odour, either. Not cheap, but it's good kit.

Great to apply and finishes well
First time I have used any product of this kind, decided to apply by cloth rather than a brush due to the intricate parts of the furniture; and was easy to apply....the consistency allowed for good flow movement. The wax finished to virtually the same colour as the raw / bare wood which I was hoping to achieve. I am very happy with this product, and I've already ordered some more.

Excellent coverage and finish
Osmo wax is easy to use, dries well and gives an excellent finish to real wooden floors. Will definitely be ordering more when its time to freshen up the lounge and dining room.
