Osmo Polyx Oil Anti Slip is an extremely versatile oil that's made from a blend of natural vegetable oils and waxes and forms part of Osmo range of interior finishing oils. This product is especially useful for entrance hallways, wooden steps, staircases and commercial environments, such as shops and restaurants where slip-resistance is a priority.

Please Note: The R9 offers more slip resistance than regular Osmo Polyx Oil. The R11 offers the most slip resistance out of the Polyx Oil range.

  • R11 - Dries dries to a satin finish
  • R9 - Dries to a semi-matt finish (slightly less of a sheen than the R11)

The 125ml sample tin labels are sometimes printed in German.

Surfaces to be treated with Osmo Anti-Slip Oil must be clean, dry and free from dust, dirt and other surface contaminants before application. Surfaces must be frost-free (maximum moisture content 20%).

  • For guaranteed performance it is recommended that all previous finishes are removed prior to application.
  • Existing oiled surfaces can be lightly rubbed back with meths then fully cleaned
  • Pre-existing varnishes and sealers must be completely removed via sanding or with a suitable product stripper / remover
  • Use an appropriate porous wood filler if repairing small dents and holes
  • Remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner before applying Osmo Anti-Slip Oil
  • To protect against blue stain in damp environments, pre-treat with Osmo Wood Protector 4006, a biocide-free wax impregnation system

How to Apply Osmo Polyx Oil Anti-Slip

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Osmo Polyx-Oil Anti-Slip is ready-to-use from the tin and does not require thinning. Stir thoroughly prior to and during application. Osmo oils dry via oxidation so it is important to ensure good ventilation during application and drying.

Application to Wood Floors, Steps and Staircases

The ideal application tool is a firm, fine, natural bristled brush, however the key to a great finish is thin application with removal of any surplus.

  1. Apply first coat thinly and evenly along the wood grain with a natural bristle brush, such as the Osmo Soft Tip Brush or Osmo Floor Brush
  2. Remove any surplus oil and leave to dry for 8-10 hours
  3. Lightly de-nib, then clean the surface
  4. Repeat above steps for second coat

Application to Cork Flooring

Cork tiles are best treated before fitting to avoid overlapping treatment of edges, which would lead to prolonged drying times. A cork floor treated with Osmo Polyx-Oil will get a robust, elastic and wear-resistant surface which will harden further over 2-3 weeks. Due to the extreme absorption power of this highly elastic, natural material we recommend the following procedure:

  1. Apply first coat very thinly
  2. Osmo Polyx-Oil Anti Slip should immediately absorb into the surface
  3. Leave to dry for at least 24 hours
  4. Apply second coat, again very thinly
  5. Remove excess oil with cloth immediately
  6. Leave to dry for at least 24 hours

Regular Cleaning

For daily maintenance a duster, mop or vacuum cleaner will be sufficient. For commercial premises, an electric floor polisher can be used.

For optimal cleaning of floors treated with Osmo Polyx Oil, we recommend the Osmo Floor Maintenance Kit.

For regular cleaning, we recommend using Osmo Wash and Care (8016) or Osmo Spray Cleaner (8026).

Please Note: Oiled or waxed surfaces should not be cleaned with a steam cleaner or steam mop as this degrades the performance of the finish.

Renovation

Renovating, even partially, is easy. Just clean and re-treat worn areas with a thin coat of Osmo Polyx Oil Anti Slip.

F.A.Q.

F.A.Q.

Back

Q. Can I use a steam cleaner or steam mop to clean my oiled floor?

A. In short, 'No'. Oiled and waxed finishes on floors are 'Micro-porous' which means that although the wood is protected, it can still breath as it is not completely sealed as it would be with a varnish.

Cleaning oiled or waxed floors with a steam cleaner or steam mop introduces high temperature and pressure water which can strip and penetrate the oiled or waxed finish and potentially damage the wooden floor.

Q. Can I store any remaining product?

Osmo oils dry via oxidation so it is important to store the Polyx Oil with no or minimal air "surrounding" it. As such pouring the remaining oil into a smaller air-tight container (tin or glass jar) to the top, will help to preserve any remaining oil.

Works well
Does make the wood floor a bit darker but I like it. Definitely gives a much improved non-slip surface for my dog. So far very pleased. Helpful 'how-to' video online.

Excellent product, does what is says, anti slip
I was recommended this product from a local paint shop that only had it in large containers and I was only doing stairs (2coats) I didn’t need a lot so brought this product from Wood Finishes direct. Lovely and definitely anti slip.

Exactly what we needed
Trying to restore an old parquet floor but also bearing in mind we had to protect our dog from slipping. Trialled a small pot, worked perfectly, so ordered more to complete the floor. Exactly what we needed, thrilled that it’s worked out all round

Brilliant non slip
So was dubious about how this product would be with my five dogs as in whether the non slip would work. Spoke to Osmo and they said this product would help.. they were right! Works a treat! So easy to apply.. I used the roller.. dries pretty much overnight. Make sure you don’t apply to thickly and spread it out well with the roller. My floor looks amazing and dogs not sliding everywhere.

Great non-slip oil
Easy to apply. I was really surprised by the "rough" feel of the oil once dried - the anti-slip element is really effective. Recommended ?

Anti slip works well
There is a very strong smell for a few days after application and it does take a couple of days before completely dry to walk on, but it’s easy to apply and looks good. This is not a shiny varnish because of the anti slip element. Worth the expense and goes a long way.
