Overview

Overview

Back

Osmo Anti Slip Decking Oil is ideal for use on all exterior wooden decking boards, steps and staircases, including Douglas Fir, Bangkirai, Garapa, Massaranduba, Larch and Pine.

Osmo Anti Slip Decking Oil can be used on all decking types, including ribbed and grooved, but is especially suitable for flat or smooth decking for a slip-resistant finish.

Please Note: This product is not recommended as a 'stand alone' decking oil and should be used in conjunction with Osmo Decking Oil or any suitable garden decking preserver and primary decking oil.

On the back of the tin it suggests that this product is not suitable for use over Osmo Decking Oil. This is purely in the context of UV resistance. In terms of anti-slip, this combination of products is absolutely fine.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Decking must be clean of all dirt, debris, mold and other contaminates prior to application of Anti Slip Decking Oil. Surfaces must be dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 20%).

Old Decking

  1. Pre-existing finishes that form a film or coating on the surface of the deck such as decking paint, varnish or some types of decking stain, must be removed completely by stripping or sanding back to bare wood
  2. Decking should be thoroughly cleaned with Osmo Decking Cleaner
  3. Decking that has turned grey or silver over time can be restored with Osmo Wood Reviver Gel to restore the timbers natural colour
  4. Any holes or imperfections in the wood should be filled with a suitable exterior wood filler
  5. Decking boards should be pre-treated with a wood preservative such as Osmo WR Base Coat or another suitable exterior wood preservative to protect decking against wood related diseases and wood boring insects
  6. A coat of pigmented oil such as Osmo Decking Oil or Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain is recommended prior to application of Osmo Anti Slip Decking Oil

New Decking

  1. New softwood decking should be weathered for approximately 4 to 6 weeks prior to applying a decking oil
  2. New exotic hardwoods should be weathered in accordance with the decking manufacturers instructions
  3. Then treat as "Old Decking" above

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to test product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Stir thoroughly before and during use.

  1. Apply Osmo Anti Slip Decking Oil thinly along the grain using an Osmo Floor Brush and spread well
  2. Work the oil into the surface of the decking
  3. Allow to dry in accordance with instructions

Cleaning Equipment

After use, the Osmo Floor Brush can be cleaned using Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner.

Regular Cleaning

Decked areas should be swept with a stiff broom periodically, especially during the winter months, to remove any build up of dirt, leaves and other biological matter from the surface and within the grooves. To help clean the build up of mould and algae, use Osmo Decking Cleaner at regular intervals.

Renovation

To prevent the anti-slip effect being reduced on frequently used walkways, Osmo recommend that these areas are partially renovated as soon as signs of wear become visible by simply brush applying a further coat of Osmo Anti Slip Decking Oil to the affected area.

Osmo products are expensive, but absolutely the best product on the market. I have used their oils inside and externally and (having tried most of the alternatives) would not dream of using anything else. I use Wood Finishes Direct to deliver Osmo products because they are 100% reliable and have a uniquely helpful helpline.

Good coverage and anti slip qualities
Bought for the second time as pleased with the last time I used the product. Good coverage and anti slip qualities. On the expensive side but recommended.

Excellent product
Pleased with the results so far, goes a long way and puts a good protective layer on the decking, hopefully will do well when the wet weather returns.

Quality product
I’ve used Osmo products for several years on the recommendation of Wood Finishes Direct. This oil goes on smoothly and dries well. Make certain to wear a vapour mask because of the vocs

Just to make sure
Went on very easily and was touch dry by the evening. I applied over a decking oil only in the area of high usage and it does look slightly shiner (not a problem). The dog and I look forward to feeling more secure on the deck.

You get what you pay for
This is really good stuff. I've applied a base coat of the Teak clear oil followed by the anti slip. Really straightforward to apply and the finish is excellent. Very pleased with this oil.

Applied very easily, so far keeping my decking slip free
So far so good, but will only really be able to tell next year how effective it has been. Needed more than the website said for the area and had to re-order.

Went on well and looks good
I bought the brush as well as the oil, and pressure washed the decking, which had been oiled but was very slippy in winter. The OSMO oil went on well, it said clear but has a nice golden tint, it looks good. It was a warm day so despite careful measurement I needed more and was able to buy a small tin to finish off. I will need to wait though to ensure it's non-slip.
