Overview

Overview

Back

Liberon Palette Wood Dyes are ideal for dying / colouring all interior bare woodwork around the home, whilst leaving the natural beauty of the grain visible. Quick and uniform results can be achieved on large and small surfaces, such as wooden furniture, floors, doors, cupboards, window frames and children's toys. The dyes are available in a range of wood shades, which can be mixed together to create unique colours.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry and free from dust, dirt or any other surface contaminants.

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Please note: This product must be stirred thoroughly before and periodically during use and especially so for the 'White' dye. The colour pigments tend to settle and stick to the bottom of the tin and shaking alone is often not enough to dislodge and adequately mix them. We recommend the use of a strong mixing stick or screwdriver to thoroughly mix this product, taking care to ensure that the colour pigments are dislodged from the bottom of the tin.

If more than one tin of dye is required to complete the work, mix the tins of dye together to ensure a uniform colour.

  1. Apply the wood dye fairly quickly along the grain using a brush or foam applicator pad
  2. Wipe off excess with a clean, dry, lint-free cotton cloth before it dries to even out the colour
  3. On large surfaces such as floors, avoid overlap marks by working on one small section at a time
  4. A second coat may be applied after 2 hours if a stronger colour is required
  5. More than two coats of dye may affect the final finish

Please Note: Caution must be taken when using water-based finishes over Liberon Palette Wood Dye. Keep brush strokes to a minimum as over brushing may lift out the colour. Do not mix a water-based dye with a spirit-based dye.

Finishing

Finishing

Back

Once dry, Liberon Palette Wood Dye must be over-coated with a suitable wood oil, wax or varnish.

Does what I hoped it would do; gives added depth to the colour of the wood I'm using on my model boat
Very easy to apply; I used a brush. One caveat; as I discovered, because the product is water-based, thin sheets of wood will curl if the product is only applied to one side, caused by the wood fibres on that side swelling. Should have seen that coming, I suppose. Overall, I'm happy with the the product; it gives good, deep colour with a minimum of effort.

Ebony Stain
Absolutely love the finish, put it on a new staircase, the spindles and the strings, finished with a rub of wire wool, another coat of stain then waxed with bees wax, it looks stunning with the oak posts and handrail.

Great Product
Good product to use, with excellent coverage. The bonus is clean brushes in water not expensive brush cleaners

All my dealings with Wood Finishes Direct have been entirely satisfactory. Not only do they invariably have the product I want; their Customer Service people are knowledgeable, happy to talk and keen to help. Thoroughly recommended.

I received a lot of help selecting this for the purposes of staining my dining table to match my dining chairs. It is nearly a perfect match. Thank you so much!!

Not good
Colour is great but terrible to apply without having lap lines. Not good for staining oak floors.

Did exactly what was needed
Used this to recolour 20 year old sun bleached wooden venetian blinds. Original colour restored by 3 coats. Did not come off at all when Danish Oil applied on top. Only prep done was a wipe down with white spirit.
