Overview

Overview

Back

Liberon Extreme Decking Paint is an advanced 2-in-1 formulation designed specifically to give old and worn decking a new lease of life. It both colours and protects decking boards with an opaque, anti-slip, matt finish.

Please note:

  • Liberon Extreme Decking Paint was previously rebranded as Liberon Garden ColourCare Decking Paint. The formulation has remained unchanged
  • This product is not suitable as an anti-slip system around pool edges

Important note regarding the 'Gun metal grey' colour variation: It has been reported by some of our customers that the 'gun metal grey' version of this product is more brown than grey. This is due to the heavier pigments that make the 'grey' colour sinking to the bottom of the tin and forming a sediment on the base of the tin. It is vitally important that this product is stirred thoroughly for several minutes, with a suitable paint stirrer, to ensure that all of the colour pigments are evenly dispersed within the paint before use. This is of course required for all colours within this range.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure the wood to be painted is clean, dry and free from dust, dirt and any other surface contaminants.

  1. Sand the surface of the decking to expose bare wood
  2. Dampen the decking with water. If the water absorbs into the timber, the decking is suitable for painting. If the water beads on the surface of the timber, the paint will not adhere and further sanding is required
  3. Degrease the surface with a lint-free cloth dampened with denatured alcohol
  4. On new timber, wait three months before painting. This will allow the timber to absorb the paint fully
  5. On exotic, hardwood or oily timbers, it maybe necessary to remove the natural oils from the wood surface by wiping over the surface with methylated spirit using a clean, lint-free cloth

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Ideal application conditions are between 12°C and 25°C in dry weather. Do not apply Garden ColourCare Decking Paint in strong winds or when bad weather is forecast. Stir the product thoroughly before and periodically during use with a mixer or wide stick, working around the bottom of the tin. This is to ensure that any of the heavier pigments and ingredients of the paint are thoroughly mixed with the other ingredients in the tin. This will help to ensure a more consistent finish across the project.

  1. Apply Liberon Decking Paint with a good quality synthetic brush, going between the grooves and edges, in 2m2 areas at a time
  2. Then paint with a microfibre roller in various directions (top to bottom and sideways) to avoid excessive application
  3. Allow 8 hours before applying a second coat
  4. On highly porous or highly exposed decking, a third coat may be required
  5. Ideally, allow a further 48 hours before light usage of the decking

Please note: To get the 5 Year Guarantee, this product must be applied in accordance with the manufacturers 'preparation' and 'application' instructions on the tin, and on surfaces not subject to capillary rise. The guarantee is limited to refunding of the product (presentation of the receipt and the tin is required) and concerns only the aspect of the paint.

Regular Cleaning

Decked areas can be swept on a regular basis to remove loose dirt and debris.

Maintenance

If there are any signs of heavy wear or surface damage, simply apply a fresh coat of Liberon Garden ColourCare Decking Paint, following the Preparation and Application instructions above.

Woods with little absorption (Iroko, Wenge, Larch, etc.) require a regular application of a maintenance coat.

When applying further coats of Extreme Decking Paint, wash the existing timber with a pressure washer and remove any foliage or moss and excess oil stains pior to painting.

An excellent product
Like many other people, I have used other so called proprietary brands and been disappointed overall because they look good initially but don't wear well. Liberon extreme decking paint is easy to apply and dries to an enduring finish. Quite simply it's a quality product that does what it says.

Great product
Good product, which readily dilutes with a little water to make it usable from a spray gun, extending the coverage. A couple of tins had my decking looking like new.

Great product, great service!
I buy this decking paint every year - testament to the quality and finish of the product. Despatch is swift and the paint is always well-protected by the packaging. I wouldn't buy from anywhere else!

Good product great coverage
After painting the decking with both the big name decking paint suppliers and have it peeling off in less than a year even though the preparation was as recommended, I thought I would try Liberon as the reviews seemed good. I prepared the decking as previously done and painted it, the first thing I noticed was how good the coverage was and how easy it went on. Three years later I've bought some more just to freshen the decking up not like with the other paints where it was peeling off but general wear and tear. Its the best decking paint I've used to date

Great decking paint
Had tried the usual decking stains /paints but all came off within a couple of months even though the preparation was done as recommended. Using Liberon was easy to apply and still good 2yrs later

Rubbish product Started coming off after 3 weeks
Absolute waste of money. Spent around £100 on this paint and needed to completely redo decking a few weeks later as it was such a mess.
