Preparation

Preparation

Back

For the best results, ensure surfaces to be coated are sound, clean and free from all defective or poorly adhering material such as dirt, grease, rust or paint.

  • Put down dust sheets to protect flooring or other areas from accidental spillages
  • Remove any loose rust, corrosion or flaking paint prior to coating, using either a wire brush, sanding or light blast cleaning
  • If the metal surface is already painted then clean with a detergent and thoroughly rinse
  • Lightly abrade smooth metal surfaces to form a sound key, with rinsing thoroughly and allow to dry
  • Repair any cracks or holes with a suitable metal filler and allow to harden

Application

Application

Back

Always do a small test area to assess colour and compatibility of the finish.

  • If there is any adverse reaction, this will appear with 1 hour. If a reaction occurs, remove all paint and wash down with a degreaser. Rinse with warm water and allow to dry.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

  • Ideally, apply avoiding extremes of temperature, between 8-35°c
  • Lightly stir the paint and do not mix vigorously
  • Apply using a good quality synthetic brush or microfibre roller
  • For best results, 2 thin coats are recommended
  • Leave 4 hours drying time between coats

I use this for outdoor metal (cast iron and cast aluminium) garden furniture. It applies easily and is long lasting.
