Overview

Overview

Back

Fiddes Clear Glaze is perfect for a wide range of interior wood projects that demand a high level of protection. Suitable for interior doors, floors, kitchen worktops, paneling and joinery. Especially recommended for table and bar tops in restaurants, pubs and clubs where durability and quality of finish are the primary requirements. Ideal for applying on top of solvent or water-based wood stains.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that surfaces to be varnished are clean, dry and free from surface dirt, debris and other contaminates.

  1. All previous coatings such as paints, varnishes, waxes and oils must be completely removed
  2. Sand the wood with a medium grit sandpaper such as 120 to 220-240 grit as required, removing any sanding dust
  3. Fill any gaps or splits in the wood surface
  4. Wipe surfaces down with methylated spirit to de-grease

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Ensure good ventilation when using this product. Either apply outside where possible or ensure that windows and doors are open. When applying to a dense exotic hardwoods such as beech, teak or iroko, the first coat can be thinned with a good quality white spirit by 10-15% to aid adhesion to the wood.

Stir thoroughly prior and periodically during application.

  1. Apply with a natural bristled brush
  2. Apply the first coat thinly and evenly along the wood grain and allow to fully dry
  3. Lightly de-nib the surface, removing any dust with a vacuum cleaner
  4. Repeat as above for second coat

Recommended application is 2 coats on hardwoods, maximum of 3 coats on softwoods or more porous timber.

Regular Cleaning

For daily maintenance of Fiddes Clear Glaze, a dry duster, mop or vacuum cleaner will be sufficient. Electric floor polishers can be useful for larger commercial areas. For minor surface marks and scuffs, a slightly dampened, lint-free cloth (not wet) is sufficient.

Alternatively, Fiddes Wood Surface Cleaner Spray or Fiddes Floor Surface Cleaner can be used.

To restore sheen after long periods of wear, clean and prepare the surface with Fiddes Floor Surface Cleaner. Then apply Fiddes Floor Wax to affected areas. Buff to desired sheen once dry.

Please Note: Steam cleaners should never be used on varnished or oiled wood. Avoid using household detergents and cleaners as these can degrade and potentially ruin the finish.

Very good , easy to use, nice result
I chose to use Fiddes Clear Glaze as a slightly richer finish was needed to re finish a solid oak floor . With a good quality brush, very easy to apply, good coverage and dries off well with minimal grain lift between coats. Final coat gave a very nice satin sheen with a lovely rich depth. Very happy customer. Just make sure you have good ventilation whilst using and when it is drying afterwards. Very pleased with the Clear Glaze and will definitely keep using.

Easy to use, great finish
Really easy to apply with a good quality brush. In a cold unheated house in February it took 24 hrs to dry so factor that in if applicable. Smell while curing is not too overpowering but you will need to ventilate. Finish is great although I cant comment on durability.

One of the best Satin glazes I have used
As above, one of the best satin glazes I have used. Good for finishing a variety of projects where a better than matt finish is required, but where gloss is just too much.

Excellent!
I bought this product on the advice of the company who made my solid wood kitchen just to refurbish a few worn bits! It was very easy to use but I thought I could have removed a bit more of the original glaze. I contacted Customer Services and an exceptionally nice man rang me and gave me full instructions about the best way to do things - its looking very nice now - almost as good as new.

Reliable and long lasting
We've been using this product for many years. Ordering is straightforward and delivery good The product is easy to apply with little in the way of fumes. I treat our wooden worktops twice a year and the effect is always good. A light sanding and wipe down before applying gives a good result. It's also good on wooden chopping blocks/boards
