Overview

Overview

Back

Dulux Trade Weathershield Stabilising Primer is a ready-to-use solution specifically formulated to seal chalky and powdery masonry surfaces in preparation for painting with Dulux Trade Weathershield Smooth Masonry Paint.

Note: It should not be used as a general purpose sealer on normal or sound surfaces (i.e. not powdery and chalky after the surface has been thoroughly prepared). New or sound bare surfaces should only be sealed with a thinned first coat of the masonry paint itself - stabilising primer should not be used in this situation.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

To get the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry.

  1. All surfaces should be thoroughly prepared by vigorous scraping and brushing to remove any loose or flaking paint and dirt
  2. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
  3. A stiff fibre brush will give better results than a wire brush, as any wire that becomes embedded in the wall will rust, and stain the new paint
  4. All mould or organic growth on the masonry must be removed by careful scraping and brushing again using a fibre brush
  5. The area should then be treated with Dulux Trade Weathershield Multi-Surface Fungicidal Wash
  6. Minor faults or imperfections in the surface can be made good using an appropriate filler. Large holes and cracks should be filled with a sand and cement mix
