Cuprinol Softwood and Hardwood Garden Furniture Stain provides a quick and easy way of colouring and protecting all types of modern and contemporary garden furniture. Perfect for enhancing and protecting new, untreated garden furniture or for restoring the look of old, tired looking exterior furniture.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that garden furniture to be treated is clean, dry and free from surface contaminates such as dirt, debris, oil and grease.

  1. Any previous stains should be removed back to bare wood by sanding or using a suitable wood stripper
  2. Remove surface dirt, debris, algae, lichen, fungi or moss with a stiff brush or scraper
  3. Wood affected by biological growth should be treated with a suitable mould and mildew remover
  4. Fill any gaps or splits in the wood with Cuprinol All Purpose Wood Filler or Cuprinol Ultra Tough Wood Filler
  5. For grey and weathered furniture, use Cuprinol Garden Furniture Restorer to restore the wood's natural colour
  6. Wipe bare, oily timbers with white spirit and allow to dry fully before applying Cuprinol Garden Furniture Stain
  7. Garden furniture made of dense, exotic hardwoods, such as Teak and Iroko generally do not require a preservative treatment prior to staining. However, softwood species, such as Pine and Spruce, can be pre-treated with a suitable, wax free wood preserver prior to applying the Garden Furniture Stain

Application

Application

Back

Always do a small test area before beginning any project to assess the colour and compatibility of the finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Do not apply in temperatures below 5°C, in damp conditions or if rain is likely before the product has dried. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use to ensure a consistent colour and finish.

  1. Apply 2-3 coats of Cuprinol Garden Furniture Stain with a suitable brush, in the direction of the grain, taking care to avoid overlaps
  2. Allow 2-6 hours between coats under normal conditions, longer if the stain still feels sticky or damp

Aftercare

Regular Cleaning

Garden furniture treated with Cuprinol Softwood and Hardwood Garden Furniture Stain can be cleaned with Cuprinol Garden Furniture Cleaner as and when required.

Maintenance

To maintain the finish if it begins to look worn over time, simply re-apply a fresh coat of Cuprinol Softwood and Hardwood Garden Furniture Stain, following the Preparation and Application instructions above.

Is the Cuprinol Garden Furniture Stain recommended for mahogany window frames?

This has been designed for furniture however there is no reason why you couldnt use on that type of surface.

What is the difference between the Cuprinol Furniture stain in Teak and the teak oil? Which product is better for my furniture?

This Cuprinol Garden Furniture Stain in 'Teak' is a water-based stain which provides a new colour to the timber, matching to a teak appearance.

The Cuprinol Garden Furniture Teak Oil is a solvent-based, clear oil which is specifically designed for teak as it has a thinner consistency to be able to penetrate its tight wood grain.

Which product is best suited for the project depends on many factors. Give our woodcare Experts a call on 01303 213838 to discuss your options and offer your garden furniture long lasting protection.

Is Cuprinol Garden Furniture Stain suitable to protect a toddler's mud kitchen?

When it comes to children's areas, we recommend something hardwearing and durable which is safe to use around the little ones. The products suitable would depend on the substrate you are applying it to. Give our Woodcare Experts a call on 01303 213838 to discuss your options.

Lovely colour- worth the effort
This product was ordered pre lockdown. We have had the time to restrain the garden furniture. This is such a good colour, stain , and keeps the furniture looking it’s best. Good customer service from the supplier.

Easy to apply
I have used it to protect a garden bench that was a wedding present so is important to us. I prepared it carefully and applied just one coat (as that was enough) . The coating penetrates well,is slightly waxy until dry, and that’s good, the finish looks great,I’ve decided not to cover the bench over winter I am that confident and we like to see it and use it on dry days for a cuddle, very happy with the product, thanks.
Lee Clark. Antique Pine, 750ml (07/01/20)
