Overview
Crown Wood Primer and Undercoat is a quick drying, two in one primer and undercoat designed to be used on wooden surfaces. Suitable for use on interior and exterior softwood, plywood, chipboard and hardboard.
Preparation
To achieve the best results ensure the surface is clean, undamaged and dry
- Remove all loose and peeling previous coats of paint, taking care if the paint is pre-1960s as this can contain harmful levels of lead
- If needed, repair the area with a suitable filler, repairing any gaps, cracks or holes and then sanding down to produce a smooth surface
- Treat any knots or resinous areas with a knotting solution
- Where necessary remove dust, grease and oil with a suitable detergent to ensure a clean surface
- If necessary slightly abrade the surface before applying the primer and then wipe clean with a lint free cloth
- For the best results use a good quality synthetic brush
Application
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.
- Do not apply in damp humid conditions or when the room temperature is below 10°c
- Stir the paint thoroughly before application and periodically when applying
- Apply the paint evenly and avoid overspreading the layer of paint using a good quality synthetic brush
- 2 coats are recommended to produce a solid and opaque finish
- A drying time of 2 hours between coats are recommended
