Preparation

Preparation

Back

To achieve the best results it is important that all surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied.

All new metals

  1. Lightly abrade to a bright (not polished) surface, excluding galvanised surfaces
  2. Wash with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove oil, grease or any other contaminants, frequently changing the water
  3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water
  4. Allow to dry
  5. When dry, prime with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer

Galvanised Metal

  1. Bright galvanised surfaces should be thoroughly degreased as per new metals, then treated with a T Wash/Mordant Solution
  2. Overall blackening of the surface will confirm satisfactory surface degreasing
  3. When dry, prime with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer

Non Ferrous Metals

  1. Prime bare metal with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer

Ferrous Metals

  1. Remove all mill scale and surface rust back to clean bright metal. Remove all residues
  2. Prime within the working day with one coat of Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer

Previously decorated Metal Surfaces

  1. All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied.
  2. Remove all loose and failing or suspect paint
  3. Feather edges of sound paint
  4. Remove all dust and rust
  5. Spot prime all bare metalwork with Crown Trade Universal Metal Primer
  6. Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water
  7. Wet abrade to provide a key
  8. Rinse with clean water to remove all residues and allow to dry
  9. Bring forward spot primed areas with one coat of Crown Trade Aluminium Paint

Please Note: When used on hot heated metal surfaces, replace the primer with Crown Trade Aluminium Paint. Use Crown Trade Aluminium Paint throughout the system.

Application

Application

Back

Always make a test area before the application to judge the suitability of the product. Follow the manufacturer's instructions at all times.

Do not apply when air or substrate temperatures are likely to fall below 8°C or when the relative humidity is above 80% during application or the drying period.

  • Stir well before and during use
  • Application can be performed with either a high quality short or medium pile roller or a good quality synthetic or bristle brush
  • Maintain a wet edge
  • Touch dry after 4 hours
  • Allow 16 hours between coats
  • Ensure previous coat is fully dry before application, colder conditions will extend the drying period

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back
