Overview

Overview

Back

A specially designed primer to cover stains on a wide range of surfaces. Producing an opaque finish in 2 coats and sealing the stains prevents the area showing discolouring after the primer has been applied and provides a solid undercoat.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

For the best results ensure that surfaces to be undercoated are clean, dry and free from surface contaminates such as grease, dust and dirt.

  • If necessary, move or cover furniture first
  • Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful lead
  • Remove all loose and defective paint with a paint scraper, by sanding, or with a paint stripper
  • Where necessary, wash the surface to remove dirt, grease and powdery or dusty residues
  • Rinse with clean water and allow to dry
  • Any surface defects should be filled with an appropriate filler
  • If required, rub down surfaces and then wipe off with a damp, lint-free cloth to remove dust
  • Previously painted surfaces should be thoroughly abraded with sandpaper to provide a sound key for the undercoat
  • Remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum or damp lint-free cloth

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and compatibility. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use to ensure a consistent finish.

  • Do not apply in damp humid conditions or when the room temperature is below 10°c
  • For the best results, apply Crown Stain Block Primer using a good quality synthetic brush or roller
  • Load brush generously and apply evenly, in the direction of the wood grain
  • In warm conditions, the undercoat can dry very rapidly, so over-brushing should be avoided to prevent brush marks appearing in the finish
  • Apply a second coat if required, leaving 4 hours between coats
  • Allow 16 hours to fully dry before applying a top coat
