Overview

Overview

Back

Crown Multi Surface Primer and Undercoat is ideal to seal, prepare and block stains on multiple surfaces with the quick drying water-based primer suitable for interior and exterior wood, metal, PVCu. plasterboard, MDF, melamine, brick, non-ferrous metal, stone, ceramic tiles and glass.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

For the best results, ensure surfaces to be primed are clean, dry (new surfaces particularly must be fully dry) and free of dirt, grease or wax before treating.

  • Thoroughly rub down previously painted surfaces, using wet flatting methods where possible, then wipe off with a damp, lint-free cloth or vacuum to remove all traces of sanding dust
  • Abrade any pre-painted surfaces to provide a key for the undercoat to adhere to
  • Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
  • Any surface defects should be filled with an appropriate filler
  • Treat any knots in wood with an appropriate knotting solution
  • For iron and steel surfaces, ensure all loose scale and rust is removed by thorough scraping and wire brushing
  • Leave new bright galvanised metal to weather and become dull before priming

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

  • Avoid applying in damp, humid conditions or in a room temperature lower than 10°C
  • Stir the undercoat thoroughly before and periodically during use
  • Apply Crown Multi Surface Primer Undercoat with a good quality synthetic paint brush
  • Apply the paint evenly over the surface avoiding overspreading the layer of paint
  • If covering a large area decant into a suitable container and use a 3 inch brush and apply quickly
  • On uncoated porous surfaces the first coat can be thinned with up to 50% clean water
  • In warm conditions the primer can dry rapidly and over-brushing should be avoided
  • A drying time of 1 hour is recommended between coats

Aftercare
