Crown Quick Dry Gloss is a highly versatile, water-based gloss paint that is ideal for use on both interior and exterior wood and metal surfaces.

Ensure that all surfaces to be painted with Quick Dry Gloss paint are clean, dry and free from all surface contaminants such as grease, grime, dust, dirt and any other loose material.

  • If necessary, move or cover furniture
  • Previously painted surfaces should be thoroughly abraded to provide a sound key before painting
  • Take care to remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum or slightly damp, lint-free cloth
  • If painting new wood or metal, prime the surface first with Crown Quick Dry Primer Undercoat and allow to dry
  • Keep rooms well ventilated to assist with drying times

Always do a small test area before starting any project to assess the colour and compatibility of the finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Unlike other wood paints, Crown Quick Dry Gloss must not be shaken or stirred prior to use. Do not apply Quick Dry Gloss paint in damp or humid conditions or in rooms with a temperature less than 10℃.

  1. Apply Quick Dry Gloss with a good quality synthetic paint brush
  2. Load the brush generously and apply evenly, making sure not to overspread the paint
  3. In warm conditions, paint can dry very rapidly, so over-brushing should be avoided to prevent brush marks appearing in the finish
  4. Paint is touch dry in around 1 hour and can be re-coated in 6 hours

Regular Cleaning

Painted surfaces can be wiped clean with a soft, dry (or slightly dampened) lint-free cloth.

To maintain the finish, simply apply a fresh coat of Crown Quick Dry Gloss as required, following the Preparation and Application instructions above.

Q: How long does gloss paint take to dry?

A: The majority of alkyd / oil paints will be dry within six to eight hours. A second coat may then be applied within 16 hours - this may vary slightly depending on the type of paint.

By comparison, quick drying latex based paints, such as Crown Quick Dry Gloss take only 1 hour to dry. A second coat can be applied as soon as 4 hours after - we recommend leaving for the full 6 hours before recoating.

Q: How does this gloss paint compare with Crown Trade paints?

A: While we don't currently stock the Crown Trade paint range, Crown Quick Dry Gloss provides excellent quality and coverage. As it is quick drying this makes it ideal for trade use.

Q: I'm looking for a good skirting board paint, is this product suitable?

A: Crown Quick Dry Gloss is perfect for skirting board. It has been formulated to be tough and durable, dries quickly compared to some other gloss paints and stays whiter for longer when compared with some solvent based white gloss paints..

Q: Is this water-based gloss paints suitable for use on a radiator?

A: Yes. modern water based gloss paints are ideal for use on radiators. It's important however to ensure that the radiator is totally cool when painting and allow a full 12 hours for the paint to harden after the final coat before turning radiators back on.

Excellent product by John Murtha

Very pleased as this paint gives good coverage and we found it touch dries in 40 minutes to an excellent finish. We have used in busy domestic areas that need good light reflection and easy cleaning and this white paint appears to give satisfaction on both counts. Thanks - will definately use again.

Excellent by Stephen Oakley

Always buy this for wood. It holds colour, exactly the right consistency, and has a great gloss. Oddly found my Dad uses the same paint and says the same thing. So father and son cant be wrong! Also the price I paid, including delivery, is usually the price for a small pot (Homebase or B&Q) so here its by far a better pricing and delivered the next day with adequate packaging. Will use again and buy again. Suggested to my Dad he buys from this website in future.

Perfect Paint by Electrogenius

This is the best white gloss paint you can buy. I have been using it for years. Once you have mastered the technique of applying it you will never go back to oil based gloss. It is a nice thick consistency, so you can load the brush well. Because it dries quickly you very rarely get runs. It doesn't smell and it stays white for years, in fact, I've never seen it yellow. If you see a review where people say it is rubbish it is because they aren't using it correctly. You load the brush well. Apply plenty of paint, do not brush it out too thinly and never ever go back and attempt to go over something you have done a minute or so ago. Finally, ignore the instructions on the Wood Finishes Direct site - you do not stir this paint.

I have used this paint before and I have been very happy with it. Many other gloss paints turn yellow. This gloss stays white. The price is good too.

Good coverage and flows on well by Robert J

I've used this paint before and it really does stay white, in fact it's as white as the paintwork which was painted 10 years ago, I could almost have gotten away with a small touch up brush for the scuffs and chips in doors and skirting boards.

Outstanding by Patricklaser

Bright white paint that doesn't yellow. It shows up the oil based gloss that has yellowed within a year, especially in rooms/ cupboards without any natural light. It takes a bit more preperation when going on to oil based, and the application technique is different to oil based paint. It shouldn't be overworked, but when you get the hang of it the finish is excellent and worth the extra effort. Brushes are washed in water and drying time is hours rather than days. I don't expect to be painting every year, hopefully every decade or so. I wouldn't go back to oil based. The future's bright (white)

Came back for more! by Martin Massey

First time I have used a water based paint and very pleasantly surprised. I have been looking to cut down on the amount of painting needed at home due to a recent change in my health. The longer lasting white finish sold this paint to me. Two coats are needed but so happy with the finish not only the door frames are glossed but also all seven previously unpainted doors! Happy painter and equally happy other half now.
