Preparation

Preparation

Back

To attain the best results, the surfaces to be painted need to be sound, clean, dry and free from dirt, dust or any other surface impurities.

  • Remove any flaking and old, unsound paint either by sanding or with the use of a paint scraper
  • Additional safeguards should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces as they may contain harmful levels of lead
  • Treat any mould or organic growths with scouring pad and bleach solution (1 part to 3 parts water)
  • If required, wash the surface to remove any dirt, grease and dusty or powdery residues
  • Any surface imperfections are to be be plugged and sealed with a suitable filler and then sanded flat
  • Rinse with clean water and allow to dry thoroughly
  • Mask off adjourning areas to protect from overspill when painting
  • Porous surfaces or new plaster need to be primed with either Craig And Rose 1829 All Purpose Undercoat or another suitable primer

Application

Application

Back

Always create a test area beforehand to evaluate the product suitability and the final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

To reliably maintain the colour consistency, purchase enough paint for each project. If multiple tins are purchased, pour into a clean container and mix together to ensure a consistency of tone and colour.

Do not apply when the surface or room temperatures are likely to be near to freezing as this could damage the surface of the paint and seriously hamper the drying process.

  • Blend the pigment and paint medium thoroughly by stirring the paint before and regularly during the application, ensuring to work the sides and base of the tin to guarantee a consistent blending of the pigment and the paint
  • Apply by brush only in a cross cross pattern to give a random pattern effect, avoiding application by either roller or spray
  • Apply two coats of Craig And Rose Artisan Copper Effect to ensure a solid opaque covering

Please note:

  • Do not touch up after the application as this will not match the original layer.
  • Craig And Rose Artisan Copper Effect must be kept out of the reach of children

If Craig and Rose Artisan Copper Effect is being used with Craig And Rose Artisan Copper Patina Effect then DO NOT LEAVE TO FULLY DRY BEFORE APPLYING THE PATINA

Interesting
My first time using these products.( copper and patina solution) ...the trick is to apply a second coat of paint and wait until its just about touch dry..this can be less than 20 mins on a warm day..then apply the patina solution liberally..and wait up to an hour..if you have too much coverage you can buff it off and touch up with more paint...but be sure to remove as much patina as you can with clean damp rags ( soaked and squeezed out)..you can then apply more copper if needed. Nice effect if used properly.
