Preparation

Preparation

Back

New or Bare Timber

  1. Bare wood must be clean, smooth, dry and free from wax, dust and other surface contaminants
  2. Wood knots and other resinous areas should be wiped with Methylated Spirit to remove any surface resin

Previously Coated Timber

  1. Ensure that all previous paints and varnishes are fully removed by sanding or with a suitable varnish and paint stripper, before oiling
  2. Previously waxed surfaces should be thoroughly scrubbed with Colron Wax Remover and a scouring pad
  3. Wipe away the dissolved wax or polish with a clean rag
  4. Wipe surface with water to test that all of the wax has been removed
  5. Repeat the process if the water continues to bead on the surface of the wood
  6. If necessary repair damaged areas with Colron Wax Repair Sticks or a suitable wood filler prior to oiling

Colron Danish Oil may be applied to previously oiled surfaces. On previously stained or dyed surfaces it is advisable to test a small area first to make sure that this product will produce the desired result.

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

  1. Shake well before use
  2. Apply liberally with a Colron Craftsmens Cloths or other clean lint-free cloth
  3. Work the oil into the grain of the wood
  4. Leave to dry for 1 hour
  5. Buff the surface with a clean lint-free cloth
  6. Apply more coats for an increased sheen level
  7. Allow 6 hours between coats

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

If wood surfaces become tired or worn looking over time, simply apply a fresh coat of Colron Refined Danish Oil, following the Preparation and Application instructions above.

Oiled surfaces can be waxed with products from the Colron Wood Wax range if desired. This will provide a wax finish that can be buffed to a higher sheen and maintained with a fresh coat of wax as and when required.

This would depend as to what the boards have been treated with previously and when they were treated. Why not give our Woodcare Experts a call on 01303 213838 for more tailored advice.

Great colouring, great customer service
There was a mix up when ordering where the shade I received was much lighter than the photo from the website, however I emailed and customer service was super helpful and sent out the colour I needed very quickly. The stain itself was brilliant, two coats was more than enough and tbh I could have gotten away with one! I did a whole table and only used half a can.
