Overview

Overview

Back

Ciranova Exterior Wood Oil is designed to protect and enrich outdoor timber while maintaining a clean, natural appearance. Its penetrating formula nourishes the wood from within, helping to preserve colour and improve long term durability in exposed exterior environments.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Before application, ensure the wood is clean, dry and free from dust, grease, resin and any loose surface contamination.

  • Any existing paint, varnish or surface coatings must be completely stripped back to bare timber before treatment
  • Existing oil based saturators or impregnating treatments must be completely removed by sanding before application
  • Weathered or grey timber should be cleaned and restored prior to treatment to achieve an even finish
  • If required, apply a suitable insecticide or fungicidal treatment and allow it to dry completely before proceeding
  • Lightly sand the surface using an abrasive of around 80 grit to open the grain and improve absorption, particularly on smooth or previously finished timber
  • Avoid using steel wool as fine metal fragments can remain in the timber and cause rust staining when exposed to moisture
  • Remove all sanding dust thoroughly before application to ensure even absorption and a consistent finish

Application

Application

Back

Always carry out a small test application in an inconspicuous area before starting your project to confirm compatibility and check the final appearance.

Apply only to dry timber. Ideally, the wood should have benefited from at least three days of warm, dry weather before treatment, with no rain forecast within 24 hours after applying the second coat. Do not apply to wood with a moisture content above 12 percent.

  • The product is ready to use and should not be diluted, as thinning can affect performance and overall protection
  • Stir or shake well before and during use to maintain an even consistency throughout application
  • Apply the first coat evenly in the direction of the wood grain using a wide brush or suitable roller, working it well into grooves, joints and end grain
  • Allow the oil to absorb into the timber for approximately 20 to 30 minutes so it can properly penetrate the surface
  • When the surface begins to lose its damp appearance, apply the second coat without allowing the first coat to fully dry
  • After a few minutes, lightly smooth the surface with a dry brush to remove excess product and prevent shiny patches or drips
  • If excess material begins to sit on the surface, lightly sand once dry to restore an even appearance

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

Exterior timber will gradually change in appearance as it is exposed to weather and sunlight. Over time the colour may fade and water will no longer bead as effectively on the surface, which indicates that maintenance is required.

  • Lightly sand the surface, remove dust and clean using a suitable exterior maintenance cleaner
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow the timber to dry completely
  • Reapply Ciranova Exterior Wood Oil to areas where the colour has faded
  • Avoid applying to sections where the original colour remains unchanged
  • If the surface is heavily weathered, sand with an 80 grit abrasive to prepare the timber
  • Clean with an exterior deep cleaner before reapplying the oil

What can Ciranova Exterior Wood Oil be used on?

Ciranova Exterior Wood Oil is suitable for most exterior timber including decking, cladding, fencing, gates and other garden wood. It is designed for use on clean, bare wood surfaces.

How many coats of Ciranova Exterior Wood Oil are required?

Two coats are recommended for optimal protection and appearance. The second coat should be applied once the first coat has absorbed into the timber but before it has fully dried.

How long should I wait before applying the second coat?

In normal conditions, the second coat can be applied after approximately 20 to 30 minutes. This allows the oil to penetrate properly while maintaining a consistent finish.

Can Ciranova Exterior Wood Oil be applied over existing coatings?

No, the product must be applied to bare timber. Any previous paints, varnishes or incompatible oil treatments should be fully removed before application.

Is Ciranova Exterior Wood Oil suitable for decking?

Yes, it is suitable for decking and provides a natural looking finish while helping to protect the timber from weather exposure.

How do I know when maintenance is needed?

Maintenance is usually required when the colour begins to fade and water no longer beads on the surface. At this stage, the timber should be cleaned and a maintenance coat applied.

What weather conditions are best for application?

Apply during dry conditions when the timber is fully dry and rain is not expected within 24 hours after the second coat. Avoid applying to damp wood or during very cold conditions.

How should application tools be cleaned after use?

As a water based product, brushes and rollers can be cleaned with warm water immediately after use. Allow tools to dry thoroughly before storing.
