BEDEC MSP Multi Surface Paint is a high quality, water-based paint suitable for both interior and exterior surfaces such as: timber, MDF, plastic, UPVC, concrete, brickwork, radiators, tiles, fibreglass, galvanised steel and much more. It can be applied over previously painted or varnished surface, including those coated with weathered bitumen, tar or creosote.

Please note: Substrates which have had water-repellent preservative treatments applied should be avoided because adhesion could be compromised.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

To get the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean, dry and free from all defective or poorly adhering material, dirt, grease and chalky residue. Sand all edges of remaining coating until smooth.

  • Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
  • Lightly abrade all surfaces to remove any grey, weathered wood and surface sheen from remaining coatings, and to open up the grain on new wood
  • Remove any biological growth such as mould and algae with a suitable mould and mildew cleaner
  • If applying to bare timber stain blocking primer should be applied prior to application to prevent any possible resin bleed staining the coating
  • Pressure treated wood should be weathered for at least 6 months prior to coating
  • Newly coated creosote surfaces should be weathered for at least 3 months prior to coating
  • Ensure bare steel is free from rust, dust and scale prior to paint application
  • New galvanised steel should be weathered for at least 2 months and doesn't need to be etched or pre-primed

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to test product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

Do not apply at temperatures below 8°C or when rain is likely. Do not use or store in extremes of temperature and protect from frost.

When applying to new wood, untreated weathered wood, brickwork, cement, render, plaster or any porous substrate, the first coat should be thinned using 30% clean water.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply evenly and consistently, using a good quality synthetic bristle brush, microfibre roller, conventional H.V.L.P or airless spray gun
  3. It is recommended to apply 2 - 3 coats
  4. Allow to fully dry for 4 hours between coats
  5. Fully dry in 2 - 4 hours
  6. Do not apply to wet, damp or frozen surfaces

Cleaning Equipment

Clean brushes, rollers and any spillages immediately after use, using warm soapy water.

Good colour match, brushes on well
This paint brushed on well to prepared previously painted timber windows. Remained wet for long enough to brush without overlap going off. Noticed that the opened tin will skin if left too long, thinning with a little water and regular stirring helped. Sheen level was good, closer to Matt than gloss. As the colour specification is not RAL I was a bit concerned about obtaining a match, but it seemed very close to RAL7016. No idea about durability, winter will tell.

Quality product
Once again, Wood Finishes Direct are absolutely outstanding. Especially Rosie whose knowledge is amazing, I needed a colour and she asked me about the lighting in my home as colours look different in certain light. Rosie showed me the difference with the ‘lighting’ box. Thank you so much, you’re an inspiration and a credit to your employer.

Very good paint, hard wearing out of doors!
I used this Multi Surface Bedec Paint over some windows many years ago and we get full sun and driving rain on that side of the house and it is showing NO signs of wear, no flaking or peeling etc., so I didn't hesitate to use it again for the pebble dashing on the front of the house, it is excellent for those types of jobs I find, easy to use, it doesn't run very easily either.

Good paint that dries quickly and can be recoated after 4 hours
Have used MSP paint for several years on a number of diy projects. This paint dries quickly and can be recoated after 4 hours. T his was very useful as i was paining masked glaze doors with 15 pains of glass so i could apply 2 coats and remove the masking tape before it became a problem to remove, which it can if left on to long.
