Barrettine Shellac Sanding Sealer is perfect for sealing bare timber, including MDF, and can be used as a sealer prior to the application of traditional French Polish, Button Polish, wood waxes and lacquers. Made from natural Shellac and grain filler dispersed in methylated spirits and contains an additive to facilitate smoother sanding when dry.

Ensure surface to be sealed is free from grease, dirt and other surface contaminants.
- Surfaces should be untreated, bare wood
- Any previous surface coatings should be removed by sanding or with a dedicated product stripper / remover
Application

Always do a test area before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times. Shake well before use. This product can be thinned down with methylated spirits to get the desired consistency. Apply in a warm dry atmosphere.
- Apply with a good quality brush or French polisher's rubber in the direction of the wood grain
- Avoid excessively thick coats
- Allow to dry for 1-2 hours between coats and lightly abrade the surface with fine grade steel wool
- The final coat can be applied diluted 50:50 with Methylated Spirit
- Allow at least 24 hours for the surface to fully harden

Once fully dry, the wood surface can be treated with a French Polish, Button Polish, wood wax or lacquer.

A very useful wood grain filler
I've used about two other different brand shellac sanding sealer products but was the first time I used the Barrettine one. I was urgently looking for a small bottle of sanding sealer for French- polishing a small jewellery box and whilst scanning the website, found the ideal amount needed in the 250ml bottle. I found it a really good product, it spreads nicely without leaving thick streaks and the lustre is superb.

Very pleased with the results
I used this together with the french polish to refurbish an old sewing box my father had made some 80 years ago and wanted to pass on to my daughter, very pleased with the results, easy to use even a granny can do this.

And the end result was just what I wanted a mirror like tough finish will definitely use again

Excellent product, that really finishes your workpieces beautifully
Without the eye-watering smell of cellulose finishers, this shellac sanding sealer really makes a good piece look even better. It enhances the colours and grain of any piece of turned wood.
I have no qualms about recommending it and I will certainly continue to use this.
