Overview

Overview

Back

Barrettine Patent Knotting is a high grade knotting solution, perfect for all types of wood. It effectively seals knots in wood and resinous timber in preparation for priming and painting. It blocks naturally-forming resins found in wood from being dissolved by the solvents in paints and seeping to the surface. This then discolours the paint finish.

Please note: Not recommended for use with water-based or lighter coloured modern paints. For these instances, we suggest Barrettine White Knotting solution.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Areas to be treated should be clean, dry and free from traces of dust, dirt and other surface contaminants.

  • Sand the wood thoroughly, ready for a wood primer
  • Ensure all traces of sanding dust are removed
  • Wipe knots and resinous areas with Methylated Spirit prior to application of knotting solution

Application

Application

Back

Always do a small test area before starting any project to confirm performance and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

  1. Shake well and apply wood knotting solution liberally using a good quality natural bristle brush, and going over and around the wood knots and resinous areas
  2. Apply Patent Knotting Solution sparingly if the substrate is to be over-coated with a water-based coating
  3. Leave to dry for one hour
  4. When dry, lightly rub the surfaces with a lint-free cloth
  5. Apply a second coat as above if required

Finishing
